Australia Press clipping 1930. I thought I would broadcast this before it fell into dust. Two comments were interesting, the author calls Australian Stamps "Rubbish" and talks about the sale of Australian Commonwealth Stamps, to King George V , for GBP 3,000 pounds by the dealer Purves.

Australia Circa 1930 Unadopted Essay Tourism : "Three Sisters" Katoomba. Not listed anywhere I can see. I would guess this is produced by "Review Publications" (seven seas) but where they got the plates, goodness knows.

Melbourne, Victoria : 1934-1935 Centenary of Melbourne and Victoria. Follow the evolving design. Poster (acknowledgement wiki) Unadopted Stamp Design. Nice, but just a tad "dry" and "matter of fact" The final accepted design, adding the original owners of the land. Nicely balanced, one of the Australian classic stamps.

Thanks CSM, I am unaware of the sophistication of your Aust Collection, but if you would like some random duplicates, leave your address on my TSF message board, and I'll pop some in the mail for you. Rod.

Siderography and a twist on re-entries. If you have a rainy afternoon and wish to look at your Scott 68, and Scott 68c to see the difference here is the background story. Here is the transfer roller "A" is the hardened original steel die, "B" is the mild steel plate about to accept the stamp impression. (The transfer roller shown, is not connected to the Australian Stamp, but offered as an example) In the 1927 stamp, the printer decided to increase the depth of the engraved impression to clear the "flat" impression of the current issue. To facilitate "conformity" , the original light impression was resumed. However two identifiable stamps were created. Wmk Multiple Crown over A ID : the "tongues" of the letter "E" of pence is more pronounced in the deeper impression. Exist Perf 14, and perf 13.1/2 x 12.1/2

Excellent stuff Rod! As rogo mentioned all the extra stuff you add to your collection makes it like a story well told, rather than just an assemblage of stamps. I agree that the 1934 cent. of Vic is a classic stamp, but I always find it a real illustration of the now well gone times when native Australians were regarded as savages...in the stamp he is depicted as admiring European civilization and his having no clothes and only a rudimentary spear. In real life he probably would not have been admiring the city, but thinking "look what they have done to my beautiful land!" lol

I have never understood the black/white thing, I have always seen peoples of other countries no matter what colour or creed, as just beautiful, I celebrate the difference. With the shoes, I have tasted some which was confronting, with the influx of peoples to my home country of England. I began to feel and understand what it was all about, I didn't like what I thought.

...and since 1966: Nice work! That graph indicates a troubling inverse relationship to my balance at bank. .....of course, the big daddy of them all (postage graphs), would be the incline of Zimbabwe Post. So much so, the Zimbawean dollar has been totally abandoned I think.

Love the Beetle. Alas! now living in the country, not much use, if I drive to the city, the big semi trailers sit on 110Kph, and one feels very vulnerable in anything less that a big 6 cylinder.

A while ago I used to drive everyday from the Central Coast to Sydney every morning and night and those big semis were unbelievable! My car was a Ford falcon so most of the time I had no trouble staying well clear of them... except when it poured down rain so the you could not see or when it was misty to impenetrability, they still travelled at 110! It was scary! I figured that they must have had different weather to me up there in their lofty cabins!

In the interests of good stamp husbandry, removed the Sellotape with "white spirits", washed all the gum from the stamps. (cold water only) A small crinkle left with the perforation separation, where the sheet was folded times past. Will settle down in it's new resting place, a Hagner.
