If I'm reading the database correctly, this August 4, 1896 Rainhill should fill a missing image slot.

Tonight's items is a duplex mark numbered 342 Most lists encountered will give a simplified list for the locations, however, within the database we can include all the variations of type These variations cover not only slight differences in the number of bars, but as is the case with this number, also diffent place names .... To show this I will present the details from the database for numeral 342 in date order .... [Moderator edit - image links are broken and irretrievable]4-2-2-4 bars No recorded dates at this time 3-2-2-3 bars No recorded dates at this time Hastings (342) Sideways duplex 15 July 1858 to 3 April 1859 Code at base. Codes known = B and D Hastings (342) 16 April 1876 to 4 July 1878 Code at top. Codes known = A and C Hastings (342) 3 June 1891 Code at top. Codes known = E Code placed to the left St Leonards On Sea Station Office (342) 3 August 1892 Code at top. Codes known = C2 St Leonards On Sea Station Office (342) 10 March 1895 Time code at top The new entry for today .... Hastings (342) 12 January 1896 Time at top St Leonards On Sea Station Office (342) 14 November 1897 to 14 June 1898 Time at top ---------------------------------------------------- There are two points to this little group of illustrations ... Firstly ... Do not rely only on a simplified list. There may be a a great number of variations and even different place names used over time Second ... As can be seen from the location of the latest entry in the presented time line, even a single item can start to fill in the missing gaps. In this timeline, there are still a great number of date periods that are not covered. However, each little piece presented will fill another space, and over time a full picture will emerge for the location Once again .... I hope you enjoy ..... Allan

tallanent How do you treat rail postmarks, Allan ? Interested? I assume St Leonards on sea Station Office is Rail? How about scan/image ownership? I have a swag of images I downloaded for my own information, from an old auction. Author/owner unknown.

I have a swag of images I downloaded for my own information, from an old auction. Author/owner unknown. Rail Postmarks / TPO are in the main database as they are generally operational hand stamps St Leonards on sea Station Office was probably mainly for mail posted at that location, but likely handled telegraph operations as well Ownership of scans images will be credited to the person IF REQUESTED .... generally most do not ask and are happy to just add items Many of the updates / scans I get are from large dealers who are happy just to get things recorded Here is a mark I added recently which falls under the heading of rail ... [Moderator edit - image link is broken and irretrievable]Travelling Office Special Staff Hope that answers all the points raised ... Allan

What I meant to imply, was that the Postmark was used in the RailwayStation Office? Not on a carriage. Would that be correct?

Let me squeeze two more in before taking that rest... I believe these June 28, 1892 Alderley Edge and Manchester Registered pre-date those in the database. I tried to cull out the second digit in the killer using RetroReveal but had no luck.
