Sc #98 and #120 This one is a little harder to spot with the naked eye. Under the scanner, the creamy "chocolate" is easily spotted Sc#98, otherwise 1. Lighter shading to the numeral "1 lev" on Sc#98 2. Designer's initials (A.M) more pronounced on the Sc#98 (7 o'clock) Gibbons have these as "brown" and "deep brown"

Sc #98 and #120 This one is a little harder to spot with the naked eye. Given my impaired color vision, I'd have to rely on the perf measurements to differentiate these stamps.

Perhaps note the cross on top of the Crown, is more pronounced on the re-engraving, Steve.

Scott #89 and #114 These are the most difficult to ID apart from perfs. Top "Myrtle Green" Bottom "Slate" Trick to ID, The Sheaf Ears of Wheat Right Hand Side, and the designers Intials, both crudely drawn in the re-engraving. Top id Scott #89

All the 1915 Re-engraved sorted. Note for Postmark aficianados : The 1911 set were obliterated in the occupied territories with the old Turkish cancellations, until they could be superseded by new Bulgarian cancellations.

That's a really nice looking #12 you have there Rod. I found this one a while back. A little rougher looking, but I think interesting considering how closely it's perfed to the image area.

Thank you James, possibly ex Londonbus1 auction purchase on TSF when he was quitting his worldwide. Yes, Early Bulgaria, Russia, Finland also show perforation accuracy on their small format stamps. Quite amazing.

After spending the last week on laser safety I have a question for you steve. I know you were in the military, did you get exposed to lasers?
I was going through a pile of odd sheets and came across this But rod222 already posted a image.
It was in a 10 dollar lot.

Bulgaria - Scott #: 148 Part of a 6 stamp commemorative set issued in 1920 for the 70th birthday of Ivan Vazov, perhaps Bulgaria's most famous novelist. So who is this person? This is "The Bear Fighter" (Ivan Borimechkata). One of the main characters in Ivan Vazov's novel Under the Yoke published in 1888. According to Wikipedia, this is Bulgaria's most famous novel and has been translated into 30 different languages. It is a story about the Ottoman rule of Bulgaria, the 1876 April Uprising and Bulgaria's fight for independence. The model for the stamp comes from an illustration in the original edition of the book by Ivan Mrkvička, a Czech born painter who settled in Sofia. Ivan Borimechkata [Public domain], by Ivan Mrkvička (1856-1938), from Wikimedia Commons Here is another painting by Mrkvička from 1915. Titled "Three Sisters: Moesia, Thrace and Macedonia", it is an allegory of Bulgarian unity. Worldwide collectors will recognize the symbols at the top of the painting. Thrace Shop Macedonia [Public domain], by w:Jan Mrkvička (23 April 1856 – 16 May 1938), from Wikimedia Commons

Marvelous stuff, Ryan, thank you. Long had I mused about the particular style / personality of Bulgarian stamps, as Czechoslovakia, they have a certain "look" "feel" about them that has lasted for decades. I would think it does not appeal to everyone. Your link on Mr. Kanchev puts meaning to a lot of that. Using his fanatical industry to his work, is a fine excuse on why we all spend so much time with stamps. Time to re-visit an old thread. I'm in the midst of a project, going through the Scott New Issues listings in Linn's Stamp News over the past 14 months or so, snipping text and images to create files showing all the new issues released since the latest ones found in Scott's 2016 catalogues (thanks again to tomiseksj for his post in the Shoutbox which alerted me to the screamin' deal sale price for these catalogues). This way I'll be able to keep the catalogues up to date (more or less - price changes, of course, won't be found in Linn's, nor are most catalogue number changes). It's slow work because there's a lot to do! But I've worked my way up to the listings found in the December 2015 edition of Linn's, and a nice issue from Bulgaria is relevant here. They've released a nice souvenir sheet commemorating the 100th anniversary of Stefan Kanchev's birth. The sheet shows elements from a few Bulgarian stamps designed by Kanchev, as well as a number of logos he had designed - more info on his logo design can be found on the site I've linked to in my old post. I don't own the sheet, so I've nabbed the image from a Delcampe seller. Ryan

The two on the lower right are on Laid Paper. I couldn't find the last stamp in Row 1 in the on-line catalog. Can anyone identify these further?
