The two stamps with maps of Mozambique re-issued in 1975 with an independence overprint:  I've shown one of these long ago but now I just got the complete overprinted set so am revisiting them. One can tell these maps are rather dated as none of the neighbouring countries names are current anymore! |

Map of the New Hebrides archipelago issued by the Condominium in 1975:  The same stamp has also been issued with an English label, and re-issued with overprints a couple of times. The 1979 self-government overprint issue will eventually correct the mistake of the longitude in the top left corner that reads 116 o E but should be 166 o E. |

A cover made from a state road map, Iowa, in this instance, to commemorate the issuance of the 37 cents Presidential Libraries stamp, Sc. 3930, issued in 2005. The cover is postmarked at West Branch, Iowa, the site of the Herbert Hoover presidential library and museum. Hoover was born in Iowa. There is a first-day cancellation of this stamp from each of the presidential libraries. Whoever cut the map to form the envelope did a good job in getting the cancel centered over the library's location at West Branch.
Iowa is also my home state and this cover is in my Iowa-related cover collection.

While re-organizing my New Hebrides stamp, I came upon the following pair:  So, contrary to what I said before, they did correct the longitude of 116 o to 166 o when issuing the self-government overprint. |

Andorra as their postal administration sees it, with this "map" of their postal codes, shown on this 2004 stamp from the Spanish Administration.  This stamp is a rare example of an occasion on which the same design was used for both administrations, and, since, to my own surprise, I have not shown it yet, here's the French Administration version:  One can see mail to France was a little cheaper than mail to Spain! |

That's where my great, great Grandfather was born, (1788)
He was Black and illiterate, yet he was "The Captain's cook" on HMS Maidstone
He served on HMS Victory when a harbour vessel.
I was watching a documentary today, on the "Mary Rose" King Henry Vlll's flagship.
Once again found evidence of crew of black sailors (from North Africa) along with maybe Spanish and Italian sailors.
and of the great source of sailors from England's "West country" Cornwall and Devon.William Dampier was born just 3 miles from our home, in Somerset.
The first man to circumnavigate the world 3 times.
