I often wish that Canada had the same designs as most of the British Commonwealth.

Yes, the British Commonwealth issues are great! I am still glad Canada did not go with the flow. What a loss it would have been without those beautiful classic Canadian pictorial stamps, like the 1908 Quebec Tercentenary, Bluenose etc

"Spend your vacation in Summerland" ! At least that's what this slogan cancel recommends. Maybe they are referring to Wag Water River, St.Andrew, the idyllic-looking scene on this 1932 issue. Engraved and Printed in Recess by Waterlow.

This does not mean that "Pete" is in error. Multiple point of views is what our "stamping" is !! René if I remember well, you have this one !! ....now let's go back to Jamaica !

There are some very well designed sets from Jamaica. There are a number of color shades, paper color changes, and watermarks to consider.
Here is an overview of the KEVII and KGV era sets.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Another arrival this week was the Jamaica mint stamp on the left. I already had the used copy on the right. This mint item was listed as a Scott 2a which is deep rose. Scott 2 is normal Rose. The recent discussions on the Cape of Good Hope triangle colours shows how hard it is to verify shades without having quite a few examples to compare. This is okay for low value definitive stamps but a challenge for high catalogue value items. I bought this stamp hoping it was the 2a but knowing I would be happy to upgrade from used to mint if it turned out to be another Scott 2. Having the 2 stamps in my possession now it would appear that the rose is much deeper on the mint one so I will keep both rather than selling the used example. NOTE: For those that saw and read my post yesterday about the the wrong Scott number on the British Guiana stamp I bought from the same seller, they have quickly sent me an acceptable partial refund. They always have 1000's of listings so I was impressed how quickly they handled the issue. That is how customer service should be.

Working my way through an old collection and I decided to keep this Jamaica 1889 2d SG28 specimen. I do not have a Stanley Gibbons catalogue but it would appear that they do list specimens with an ‘s’ added making this one a SG28s. Hopefully some one can confirm this for me. I see there are decent values to some specimen stamps from Jamaica. I do not generally collect specimen stamps other than from Nova Scotia but if they find me I will keep them. PS vikingeck I am with you Alex on Colnect, I have occasionally used it and started a want list there but it has really done nothing for me.

yes Hugh hdm1950 SG do list SG27s-29s the set of three, opt SPECIMEN at £150 for the three. Now the 2d is the best value of the three and is worth half of the value of the normal set (ie £26 out of £45) then logically your 2d must catalogue around the £75 mark

That might explain why I was not seeing any listed or sold on eBay at this time seeing as it is harder one to find. Too bad it has the foxing spots but worth keeping for sure.

paul1 mentioned the nice cancel on one of these halfpenny stamps. That is a nice added feature but the reason I acquired the one the right is for the SERv ET for SERVIET variety. Postmarks often obscure this variant so it can be missed. The one on the left is a common used Scott 37 and the one on the right is the more scarce Scott 37a. The variant is easily seen on this example. There is either a slight crease or a paper flaw. I am fine with that.

Today's mail brought a few stamps including this used Scott 54. It was the only missing Queen Victoria from my Jamaica collection. I find it interesting that this stamp was issued in 1908, well after she had died. From some quick reading on line it mentions that Jamaica did not use Edward VII on stamps till after he had died. This image is scanned at 600 hoping to make out the postmark but no luck. Scott makes no mention of this 2 shilling stamp having revenue cancels.
