Hi It would be nice if Steiner had also put the Spanish on the Departmental pages. In Spanish the overprint abbreviations make sense but not always so in English. Abbrev | Spanish | English | M. A. | Ministerio de Agriculture
| Ministry of Agriculture
| M. G.
| Ministerio de Guerra
| Ministry of War
| M. H.
| Ministerio de Hacienda
| Ministry of Finance
| M. I.
| Ministerio de Interior
| Ministry of the Interior
| M. J. I.
| Ministerio de Justicia e Instruccion
| Ministry of Justice and Instruction
| M. M.
| Ministerio de Marina
| Ministry of Marine
| M. O. P.
| Ministerio de Obras Publicas
| Ministry of Public Works
| M. R. C.
| Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Culto
| Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Religion

Hi
Just noticed that I "liked this" on my last post. Don't know how that happened as I did not mean to "toot my own horn". I guess it was one of those "fat finger" things.

Hi Rodney
Does Steiner have pages for all the watermark and printing varieties? In the pages you show I do not see very many watermark designations.

Hi Rodney Does Steiner have pages for all the watermark and printing varieties? In the pages you show I do not see very many watermark designations. Jerry B Hello Jerry, Aaaargh! Argentina is a country requiring one's complete attention, I am working at snail's pace but adroitly, page by page. Your question lacks parameters and is open ended, ergo, I am unable to answer. What I shall say, is Mr. Steiner is very rarely beaten to task, he is generally spot on. Caveat: He often works in tandem with the Scott Catalogue, hence if one was a Stanley Gibbons collector, then it would be difficult to follow. Sometimes Mr. Steiner pages are constructed by other Philatelists, and one may find extra varieties included in the page design. If you are following an Argentine specialist catalogue, then no doubt you are going to find irregularities. My Route: I follow Scott and Steiner exactly, this brings immense benefits, I can take a random Argentine purchase lot of loose stamps, and have them sorted, and duplicates separated in minutes by tabbing through my scanned pages. It is really enjoyable collecting. If irregularities are found, forgeries, postmarks, I quickly whip up a personal designed page and insert in the correct sequence. What you may try, follow my pages, and if you see a lack somewhere, bring my attention to it, and I'll see if it is addressed. Mr. Steiner gives me permission to share some files, but not for Argentina, so I cannot send you a copy of the pages. Rod

Hi Rodney
It was an curiosity question since I do not use pre-printed pages and I do not collect Argentina. In my area of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela I would not expect the "details" of early issues to be on a Steiner page as I use Scott and specialized catalogs.

Jerry, in my experience, Steiner addresses all perf varieties, all general print varieties, and Scott indicates generally where forgeries may exist.
With say, commonwealth country issues, I'll mount in Scott fashion, but always check Stanley Gibbons for "extreme" varieties eg: inverted wmks, flaws, print irregularities, as this is where the big money lies sometimes. I check my stamps thusly, before placing them in the "duplicates" to go on ebay.
I misunderstood, I thought you collected Argentine stamps.

Hi Rodney
I do not collect Argentina but I am very familiar with South America and somewhat familiar with Central America. In my friend's store I am the "Latin American" source for breaking down collections. He has himself and someone else for United States and Europe, someone for Asia and I believe someone for British Commonwealth.
I have broken down so many Mexican collections that I started to become interested in the country and its history. If I ever started a new collection I believe it would be Mexico.
As far as collecting Argentina. A few years ago the local stamp club to which I had belonged had its usual mid-month auction. My wife and I had to go someplace after the meeting so she went with me to the meeting. Big mistake! There was an Argentina lot that was a box (2-3 inches wide maybe 10 inches long) of Argentina stamps in glassine envelopes. My wife got caught up in the bidding and won the lot. I took some for myself (to fill out a childhood collection) and disposed of the remaining stamps to a World Wide collector. I swapped the entire remainder for 2 or 3 Colombia covers and some Cubiertas.
A casual friend used Steiner pages. When he started using them I believe Bill Steiner offered the page source. Anyways, he got the source and had someone he knew convert them to Microsoft Publisher. That way he could modify a page with his own Publisher software.

classicalstamps Hello Morten, I have not forgotten your Albania forgeries, will arrive shortly. Argentina Forgery for you. Hope this helps. Genuine Engraved, "8" of 1892 looks like an "S", Watermark Sun with Long rays, + in Flag is well defined Forgery Lithographed "8" in 1892 is closed, Watermark Sun with short rays. + in flag appears slightly blurred. Corollory would suggest the Postmark is forged as well?

These stamps designed and engraved by a Baker's delivery boy !................ thestampforum.boards.net/post/34875The Corrientes stamp of 1856 was designed and engraved by Matias Pipet, a baker’s delivery boy, who served as an apprentice to a French engraver before arriving at the province. With no one having such experience, Matias was asked to prepare a stamp and he copied the design of the famous French Ceres stamps. www.americanstampdealer.com/Specialities/Argentina.aspx

Tips for new collectors to the discipline............ Detecting Lithography v Typography Using the General San Martin Bust in the definitives. (When sorting hundreds of these fellows, the colour is oftentimes not detectable) Lithography : Frame corner generally sharp Typography : Frame Corner has a lip or "point" as the inked die lifts off the paper. Typography : Vignette is often "blobby" from the ink, less definition, note heavy ink around General San Martin's left eye, nose, and mouth...... Left :Litho (without period after numeral, Wmk RA in Sun 1923-24) Right : Typo (1931-1933)

rod222No worries about the Albania Thank you for the Argentinian genuine + forgery. I actually have another forgery of this stamp: Thanks for sharing. I have not gotten around to publishing a page about forgeries of Argentina - yet Your stamp will be a most welcome addition to my reference library until then.

Argentine Air. Nothing is straightforward with Argentina, one shall expect to expend volumes of Watermark Fluid. I have issues I would swear were Un-watermarked yet they carry a Postmark of 1944 (Un-watermarked paper did not arrive till 1946) A sparsely decorated page, and a cheat sheet, for sorting the blighters.........
