Burma´s national hero Aung San (his portrait appears on the previous set) was assasinated on July 19th,1947, together with six other members of the Excecutive Council of Burma. The Council had ten members and was the de facto government of Burma, although the Govenor General was still the highest authority.Aung San,founder of the Communist Party of Burma and a general was the chairman of the council,de facto the prime minister. During the war,as the leader of the Liberation Army of Burma,he sided with Japan, till it became clear, that Japan would loose the war.
On July 19th,1948 a commemorative set of 12 was issued, honouring the assasinated members of the Excecutive Council of Burma the year before. Unfortunately I do not have this set, apart from a few singles. However all 12 stamps show the same design.
Another portait of Aung San on a 1 Kyat note:

What I collect: Worldwide Stamps 1840-1930

Salentin, I just wanted to say thanks for all of your contributions to this thread. The Burma issues fall after the self-imposed 1930 cut-off date for my collection, but I have really enjoyed looking at your holdings, which are extensive, and I consider all of what you have shown to be real classics, no matter what the dates--simply great stuff! Thanks again for sharing these with us!

I want to echo Chris's sentiments. I once collected the Stamps of Burma and had a very decent collection before selling them all off in 2009. Seeing these posts in recent weeks has tweeked my interest and it's been like a trip back in time for me.
In 1988 I was travelling around Asia with friends and the one place I wanted to visit above all others was Mandalay which my father had told me about and where he was posted for a while during the War. Sadly I was there shortly after the Student Uprising and Military crackdown and they closed their borders. That was the reason I started to collect the Stamps of Burma !

Beryllium Guy and London Bus, thank you very much for your kind and encouraging remarks ! I have been in Burma once only,in 1987.I stayed the whole permitted week in Rangoon and spent most of my time to look for stamps and just to feel the strange atmosphere of a suppressive regime in power.(Do not take pictures of the Red Building or walk on the sidewalk there.) My collection is by no means a complete one,so I cannot show all stamps,Burma has issued. Furthemore I terminated all my collections with the year 2000. Living here in Paraguay means,I had to stop all stamp aquiring activities, because mail-theft is too widespread. So to "play" with my stamps I take part in this forum.Scanning them is a chance to have a closer look to many stamps, what were "buried" for years in stockbooks or albums.
issued May 17th,1954 (35 Pyas),others Nov.15th,1954 (part I of 2)

1964/1966 fourteen locally overprinted service stamps were issued. They are of moderate catalogue values, but not easy to find. I have just two of them:
issued 1964 (Scott O80)
issued 1966 (Scott O90)
