I'm sure I've posted these elsewhere, but my Christmas and Easter seal collection has grown quite a bit since my first, and last post in 2014 Denmark 1917 London and Muskoka Free Sanitariums 1909 and 1910 respectively. Canada 1970 misperfed sheet American Red Cross 1908

As Hannukah and Christmas fall in the same week this year, this might be appropriate. Produced by a Jewish Health Centre in Denver, Colorado.

Two wise men appear to say that following the star is the best option, while the third (must be the one with Myrrh) is not convinced. Either way, Denmark saw fit to display this mystery on their 1971 Christmas Seals.

Denmark opted for a bit of pet cruelty on these 1995 Christmas Seals. Obviously in the 'off-season' as Santa is not fully dressed so I can only assume the cat has had enough and is trying to escape before the next Christmas comes around. Frankly, I don't blame him. Or her. Londonbus1......always gets silly at this time of year.

Before we go offline for Christmas, I want to post a couple of Christmas seal-related covers that I have acquired over the years. I am never quite sure where I should place the first cover. It carried an eBay purchase to me 17 years ago and I couldn't just throw it away. Since then, I have taken up collecting cinderellas on and off cover and this one now rests in my Cinderellas on Cover collections.
Posted on the 13th of December, 2002, it has Christmas seals from 1958 and 1969 liberally applied to the front and undated Girls - Boys Town seals on the reverse, along with three unnecessary airmail labels. A colorful cover if nothing else.
Below it are two covers that are Christmas seal-related from eras past. The first is a cover from my favor stamp dealer, Elmer Long. It carried one of his Christmas Seal Handbooks listing prices for various seals, stamp supplies, and other stamps in his inventory. It is unusual for its holly border and Christmas seal image.
A similar cover from the same time period, is this one from the Christmas Seal Shoppe in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Unfortunately, I know nothing about the owner of this shop or how long it operated. The addressee, however, is listed in both the 1935 and 1938 Blue Book of Philately published by Stamps Magazine. His listing ,not surprisingly, indicated he collected Christmas seals. This cover is appropriately sealed on the reverse by an 1943 Christmas seal.

Here is the first page of a collecion of Danish Christmas Seals I acquired as part of a mixed lot. Before I dispose of them I thought you might like a look. Denmark was the first country to issue Official Christmas seals through the Post Office, starting with the portrait of Queen Louise in 1904,the idea of Post Master Einar Holboll who is commemorated on the 1927 issue . So successful was the sale that enough money was raised in 2 years to build a Children's TB Sanatorium depicted on the 1908 issue . Historical representation on the 1920 represents the return of Slesvig to Denmark after WWI. 1921 reflects the connection of Greenland to Denmark and 1923 the Faroes. 1924 represents the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the Danish Post , the old and the new.

The Danes issued a single design each year from 1904 till 1950.These are individually priced in the Danish SFA catalogue .Thereafter they issued sheets with multi images and from 1951 on they are less interesting as singles and collected as complete sheets, (unless you want to do a reconstruction)

Throughout Scandinavia mischievous elves called Nisse , dressed with red floppy caps , get involved in the Jultime celebrations . At Christmas the children must recognise the Nisse’s contribution by leaving out some festive rice pudding for him . They frequently appear in Denmark’s Christmas seals

Well, I was looking for Ohio stamps today and came across this Christmas seal dealer in Ohio. Here is the website " John Denune's Christmas Seals". Specializing in Christmas Seals, Charity Labels, and Cinderella stamps. Here is the website: www.christmasseals.net.
Maybe someone will find this interesting.
Have a great day!
Mike.

Hello! I am helping a friend do some research on the 1939 Christmas Seal designed by Rockwell Kent. Does any of the members on the Forum have any idea as to the whereabouts of any of the original artwork? I am attaching a picture of the Seal, and a photo of Kent presenting a painting of the Seal to President Roosevelt. Please send me a private message if you have any information.

Steve, Good thought, but I know they are not there. I run The Rockwell Kent Forum website www.rockwellkent.us. I am a long-time collector, writer and lecturer on Kent. I have copies of all the documents in the Archives about the Christmas Seal. Last I knew one of the paintings was owned by a Christmas Seal dealer in Maine, but that was almost 30 years ago. Thanks! Will

Hello and thanks, I have referred my friend to the Society as a possible source of information. I was a member at one point in time, but fell away from Christmas Seals when I discovered someone else had cornered the market on the '39 Seal! I still have some interesting material. Here is a glass lantern slide that was used for publicity purposes.

Thanks again. I checked and my friend is a long-time member of CS&CSS. He may have already contacted your friend, but who knows. If you go to my website www.rockwellkent.us you will see contact information for my friend and his notice. Also posted on my website is a copy of Doug Lehman's article from December 2005 "American Philatelist" about the 1939 Seal.
