According to Gibbons, Marshal Kim Il Sung is addressing workers in the top two stamps. The bottom stamp shows Kim with his fur hat inspecting the battlefront. SG#N385-387. Issue of 1962.  |

I don't see a lot of North Korean stamps (especially in North America) ... but I actually picked this up at a convenience / general store in a small town somewhere in Canada. I can't remember where or when. What I do remember is that my wife and I were driving from Toronto to Newfoundland (we do that every so often ... maybe it's the wonderful ferry ride between North Sydney and Port-aux-Basques - smile) ... anyway, on that long ago trip, I was rather amazed to see this set of North Korean stamps in a small wicker basket with a bunch of other dealer sets. I remember showing my surprise and the old guy at the cash said they'd been there for "years". So, of course I bought them. Of course, at C$6 for 25 stamps, they couldn't have been that old. The stamps have been glued onto the card (sigh) ... I haven't taken them off (yet). I guess I just thought that the card itself was part of the story. I'm been cleaning up my stash lately and came across it. I haven't seen it in a few years. Quite a nice range ... young pioneers, hard-working farmers, a landscape, street entertainers, international socialism and determined patriots. Looks like they're all CTOs. Many of the stamps are overlapping. I'm wondering if I should soak them off now before the glue ruins them (if it isn't already too late).   |
