G'day Admin, It looks like both a previously Unidentified PERFIN, and a previously uncatalogued POSTMARK (as to one postmark site only) Had the stamp been a later aniline issue, I would have had a stamp worth > $300 (and I would have sent it back to you) Has been a good day in philately for me.

1883 2sh6p lilac, "Anchor" watermark (Scott Wmk. 31), white paper Scott 96 "Huddersfield" postmark Nice. Rubber Hammer, Parcel Postmark. Not seen Huddersfield before. Sadly Pmk has "chattered" or jumped. Clear Postmarks have a reserve around £5 - £50

...Clear Postmarks have a reserve around £5 - £50 I certainly wish there was only a single strike of the postmark but all else looked good so I'm happy I was able to add it to my collection. In addition to the premium for clear circular date stamps, the 2015 Scott Classic Specialized also notes a 25% premium for examples with margins clear of the design on all four sides. The stamp also came with a recent APEX certificate (No. 211131).

Flyspecking If you happen to have this particular stamp, preferably uncancelled, you may find, looking under the loupe, the rascal engraver, has scratched his name on the stamp die. "JHNO" and less carefully finished "C or G Ross" One needs to invert the stamp, and read the scratches on the Diadem. (John Easton / Fred Melville)

Very interesting, Rod. Just ordered 300 Penny Reds. Will have to check. Is it only on the imperfs? Plate 13 only?

Very interesting, Rod. Just ordered 300 Penny Reds. Will have to check. Is it only on the imperfs? Plate 13 only? As long as it is 2 letters NG, 1d red, plate 13. That identifies the position of the stamp in the forme. (Assuming) all will have the scratches. You are getting 2nd hand info from a book, not personal experience. 300 reds? Yikes. Good Luck. I wonder the odds? of you getting an "NG"?

And it's a postal stationary cutout I paid over $400 for. It is not a 7b at all. I was misled. Suffice to say I will be having a friendly chat with the owner of the auction house in the near future.

Hopefully the miscreant just made a mistake and will refund your money promptly. I have had such issues in the past and all were eventually made right. Still, it is extremely disappointing to be on the receiving end of such a transaction. I really wish sellers would take greater care when offering such items.

Smauggie, I am so sorry to hear about this. You deserve better, that's for sure. Hopefully, the auction house is reputable and will give you a full refund. I had problems with three of my many purchases at WESTPEX earlier this year, and each of those three dealers gave me a satisfactory resolution to the issue--one full refund and two substantial discounts to make things fair. If you don't mind my asking, Smauggie, how did you figure out that your piece is a postal stationery cut-out versus the stamp? Did you send it out for expertizing or was there some other way to tell? I have a GB, Scott #5 in my collection, and now I am wondering if there is a chance that it is also a cut-out rather than the actual stamp. In my Scott Classic Specialized Catalogue, GB postal stationery is not listed, so I have no way to cross-check this. I got my stamp, which is in very poor condition, as part of a larger collection, so I didn't pay very much for it. Anyway, I hope that you get a good resolution on this, Smauggie, and I would be interested how you went about correctly identifying this item. Thanks, Chris Later Edit: Actually, I think I can see the difference now, comparing your scan to the one in the catalogue. I see three small circles with numbers in them in your example, and these are missing from the design shown in the catalogue. Is that how you could tell the difference?
