What I collect: Worldwide Stamps, Ephemera and Catalogues

Naked archer - I had a look through my glassines of Belgian Congo and Ruanda Urundi, and was able to find these two, so I took a quick cell phone picture. No luck with the Ruanda Urundi, those are missing from my piles of stuff. Note the postmarks from Elisabethville, now known as Lubumbashi. This city is the capital of Katanga Province, known to stamp collectors from their issues during the brief breakaway State of Katanga period immediately after Congolese independence. While snooping through my catalogues the other day I came across a nice starfish on a star-shaped stamp. Find a starfish (doesn't have to be a star-shaped stamp, though). I don't have any star-shaped stamps, let alone any with starfish on them, so this will have to do. In recognition of rod222's ongoing quest for the perfect stamping computer, show me a stamp with one or more microchips on it.

Here's the starfish stamp I saw in the Scott catalogue - it won't be anything I'm likely to find in my piles of stuff, stamps from Vanuatu are very uncommon for me. Ryan

Microchips I don't collect Australia, but I know my images... (Postcode Aust 5000 = Adelaide) BTW. That graphics card Ram recommended....it has 7.1 Billion transistors, I still can't get my head around that. Target : A man smoking a pipe.

More than 24 hours have passed without a response so I present a Malayan Tapir. Perhaps an easier task is in order...how about a man (or woman) riding a water buffalo?

I think I have found a stamp, that will not pop up with Google.... Find Tombola on a stamp. I found one that wouldn't pop up with Google, too, a few weeks ago. "Little Orphan Island." Trouble was, no one else could find it at all.

I did find it Bud, but at the time, felt it was kinda cheating, using Google, since then have had a re appraisal, and accept some topics need a WW search.

I know this one but didn't get a scan done before heading out to the shop for work - so, the image will have to wait for a few more hours. Have a look at the rider on horseback on Canada E3,, the 1927 special delivery stamp, and you should see his saddle bag and the extremely tiny text.

OK, maybe I'm off base on this one. I got out my album and my digital microscope and had a look at Canada E3. According to the Canadian Postal Archives Database, the mail bag says "CANADA P.O.". The actual stamp is fuzzy at the magnification required to see the text - plate proofs are printed on nicer paper, perhaps that shows the engraving more clearly, but on an actual stamp, I guess I'll have to take their word for it. As an idea of how fuzzy paper actually is, have a look at these two scans of a random French engraved stamp. When I zoom in with maximum power on the "R" of "FRANCAISE", you can see all kinds of fibres and how poorly defined the edge of the printing actually is. No wonder chalk-coated paper was a popular thing with some countries like Switzerland, the coating smoothed out the surface of the paper so the printing was more crisp. Ryan
