Dang. I want it, but I guess I wasn't fast enough. I'm right on the Great Lakes, so it would be a good one to have.
Just my luck as I don't check in as often on the weekend.

thanks for sharing this cover, Rene. It made me a bit homesick! I grew up just a few miles from Lake Michigan’s beautiful coast and dunes. One of the most beautiful USA FDC, Oct 2, 2008 - Scott 4352d - Eastern Snake - the Dunes pic seems to be in silk - From the Nature of America series Problem # 1 - it does not fit into a 4 1/8 X 9 1/2 (inch) envelope !! However, for same shipping cost, it fits into a 5 7/8 X 9 5/8 envelope Available (since I have 2 copies )- late dad bought everything in multiples LOL ! Ist "I want it" gets it shipped Monday daveg28 ....better hurry

One of the new flag on barn presorts arrived on a mailpiece yesterday. The cover was from a financial services company inviting us to a dinner at a local restaurant in order to get us to use their retirement services. Apparently Sc. nos. for these stamps are not available yet as they were issued less than a month ago, on April 14. This stamp is Barn in Winter.

PERSONAL RADIOGRAM envelope
Like a Telegram but a trans-Pacific service for military personnel writing to home in the states. An interesting internet search subject for the curious.

Another cover I stumbled across in the cover binder this evening is this sounvenir from EUPEX '80 where they were celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Zepplin Issue. This show in Euclid, Ohio does not appear to be happening anymore.

The last several years our eye doctor has been regularly reminding my wife and I of our appointments with these tidy little postcards with some of my favorite US stamp issues, the forever postcard rate stamps. Starting with the seashells and shore birds, and lately the coral reef stamps, I have quite a nice little collection of these postcards with both coil and sheet stamps from all of the issues I just named. I am waiting for them to use up their supply of coral reef issues and move onto the barns.

Iditarod 11, 1983 Interestingly enough, the Beverly Jerue mentioned on the cover was a rookie musher for that season and had to scratch, so not entirely sure if this cover really got carried via dog sled.

Here's an odd cover from the Dallas chapter of the Society of Israel Philatelists. Issued to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Palestine Mandate Waterlow Printings 1922- 1972. At least it has a Palestine, Texas cancel.

$50.85 postage Priority Mail Express
I picked this up in a large box of large and ugly covers at a recent meeting. Rated $50.85 with $51.24 postage, slight overpayment.
Quite a remarkable franking none the less.

danielActually this “Palestine” Texas town has no relationship to the mid-East Palestine. It was named after Palestine Illinois, and has a distinctive pronunciation of pales-“teen.” Crazy Texans “

I had to smile when I came across this eBay lot, a pair of show covers that I designed way back in 1975.

I collected this cover for its Oklahoma connection as it listed Mildred Buxton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as international secretary. I have not heard of the organization, nor could I find any reference to it on the internet, so it probably is no longer in existence or has changed its name. I was intrigued, however, by the number of different hobbies represented in its cachet. and by the fact that it was, at the time, an international society. I can't help but note that top left, in first position, was stamps followed by numismatists. Now, coin collectors far outnumber stamp collectors, a standing I have not been able to figure out, except, perhaps, there is more money in coin collecting , pun intended. No dated postmark, but this cover looks like it is from the 1939 -1942 time frame. Also, judging by the placement of the franking, the mailer was hoping for a nice bullseye cancel. The roller cancel applied was most likely a disappointment. Don StampHinger

Another cover I kept for no particular reason would fit in a special events thread if there was one but this thread works as well. This cover was issued in 1940 to mark the National Dairy Co-operative Centennial. It would appear there was a conference in Lake Mills, Wisconsin on July 20-21-22, 1940 to celebrate this event.

Somebody in Stone Mountain, Georgia went to a lot of trouble to make this one. I'd never really thought about how often a five-Saturday February comes along. I wonder how many of these the person made? And what the differences were in the typing and phrasing? There's something heartwarming about people not being afraid to be eccentric in public.

another cover from a box which came to me from inheriting my uncles collection. He inherited a co-workers collection and I believe this was from that collection. It was in a box which contained a number of letters and cards addresses to his co-worker, but also a number4 of letters addresses to Mr. L. J. Barr. The address is a residence. The handwriting on the end says something to the effect of "Notes of meeting to rescind call for spc mtgs / ? " not really important. What attracted me was the cancellation. Although this was sent Aug 9, 1912, the Worlds Panema-Pacific Exposition of San Francisco i1925 was already be promoted. The stamp I think is fairly common
Update: I have found several more covers addressed to Mr. Barr, and it appears he moved from Nebraska to Los Angeles prior to 1911, and was also an attorney (letters addressed to , Esq). Several other letters are from attorneys/law firms both to the Nebraska address as well as the Los Angeles address in the current (above) time frame, as well as an additional letter from Prudential Improvement Company, and I suspect that there was some type of legal situation underway. A letter from Prudential to Mr. Barr on Aug 1-. 1912 (one day later) has the following- " hand written notes- " Notice of PLC meeting to authorize pms (permission) to vote 9not legible) 8th" by October 1912, Mr. Barr had relocated to San Francisco. ( a letter from another atty in Los Angeles )

I recently came across a couple of interesting covers in my collection. As far as I can tell, USPS had a short-lived program about 25 years ago where collectors could buy a cover canceled “LAST DAY OF SALE” when a stamp was being withdrawn. It seems like this mostly happened circa 1997-1998 with popular commemoratives that had been issued a couple of years before that. These ones are dual-cancelled, with both first-day and last-day postmarks. I must have picked them up back then. I think they’re kind of cool, even without cachets. Anyone else recall anything about these?

A cover 'Commemorating the Transfer of Magna Carta to the US Bicentennial Celebrations'. Actually, yet another RAF cover but bearing a USA Benjamin Franklin stamp with a Merced, Ca Castle Air Force Base, USPO postmark for 30th September 1976. Flown on an RAF Vulcan B2 of No. 50 Squadron and signed by the entire crew. Flown from Waddington in the UK to Castle AFB via Goose Bay, Labrador. This particular copy of the Magna Carta came from Lincoln Cathedral.
