Zambia : Formerly Northern Rhodesia. This took some identifying. Sc #930 2001 Purple Gallinule (Swamp hen) Similar to 1999 Purple Gallinule (200 Kwacha ) yet I could not see the 200k (obliterated by the Pmk? ) Turns out a 2001 stamp, (yet inscribed 2000) and a value tablet of "C" = 1,500 Kwacha Zambia has values of "O" "A", "B", "C" anyone know why this was adopted?

I did a rough sort and put catalog numbers to a small accumulation of Zambian stamps I have last night. I don't feel I have quite enough to print pages but my accumulation is growing. I am reminded a lot of the stamps of Botswana.

I sell stamps part time from my website, and I actually had a customer in Zambia. He was an engineer and it took him three days to get to work. His "commute" included crocodile infested waters as well as trekking thru some pretty rough terrain. I was never able to think of my 45 minute commute the same way.
I used to send his stamps to a forwarding agency who consolidated packages and letters and then forwarded them to Zambia. We had a shipment get hung up for over a year because someone sent a vibrator which apparently is illegal there. So the whole shipment was held until they sorted things out. Probably my most unusual customer.

First Day Cover Zambia Independence 24th October 1964 Formerly the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland or the Central African Federation. Note that the Ndola registered label has been overprinted Republic of Zambia. Interestingly, the cover is addressed to The British South Africa Company (BSAC) in Lusaka. The day before Independence, BSAC had given up their claim to mineral rights in the country for £4 million, the British and Zambian governments paying half each. The following year, the business of the British South Africa Company was merged with the Central Mining & Investment Corporation Ltd and The Consolidated Mines Selection Company Ltd into the mining and industrial business of Charter Consolidated Ltd.
