Tuva (or Tuvan) Peoples Republic Called Tannu Tuva in Scott's, but that is not the proper name for the stamp issuing entity, it is the old name for the region. The Tuvan People's Republic (1921 – 1944) was a partially recognized independent state in the territory of the former Tuvan protectorate of Imperial Russia. It was a satellite state of the Soviet Union that is now known as the Tuva Republic within the Russian Federation. More on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuvan_People%27s_Republic

Recall 20 years or so, ago? Touva / Tuva would be in a dog eared Chinese stock book, mixed in with Mongolia, or Russia Lonely orphans, that quizzed the beginners, random stamps with no particular place to go. Now they are home, back in the family, proudly rejoicing their genealogy. The recipients of your collection when passed on, shall have it easy.......... PS. What's the orange line on the Map ?

According to Google translate, the orange line is "well-developed remote-traffic street". A member who speaks German maybe can improve on that.
Yes Rod, it is nice to give stamps a new home, kind of like adopting a dog from an animal shelter (which I have done).

Just as an aside, Members who may have watched certain episodes of "The Big Bang Theory" may have caught Sheldon's "Tuvan Throat Singing"
You tube videos abound, I won't post them here. Google "Sheldon's Throat singing"

Thanks for bringing that up Rod. That was a very funny scene. Since throat singing is such an important part of the Tuvan culture I think it is appropriate to link here. Of course it is important not to confuse this Tuva with the other Tuva, the one that has a LU instead of a Tannu. I mean Tuvalu of course.

There are some great sounding names of towns and villages in Tuva: Ij, Kak, Bert-Dag, etc. I wonder if cancels exist for any of these.

1935 Tuva Animals (I am missing a couple) Hi Brian, Roe Deer? could they be Yak's? Trained to pull heavy loads, but not referred to as Oxen (or Oxes, Pl) Postmarks: Richard C Witt All existant covers appear philatelic in origin, none used commercially 2 types of postmarks, all appear to have originated in Moscow.

Oh man Rod! thanks again, you have corrected me before. The problem is I make my pages too fast and don't check them well enough! I cut and paste the triangle from the previous page. Well, at least it is easy enough to correct and re-print...

Well, at least it is easy enough to correct and re-print... I am your proof reader I was observant, because your first post piqued my curiosity, You had a "Ox-cart" and I went traipsing through the internet trying to substantiate that, I, believing the temperature would be too cold for an Ox / Oxes. I imagined they would only use Yaks. (I never found out) I looked at your "Roe Deer" because one looked like an Ox, the other a Yak. I guess if deer can thrive, so can Oxes.
