Some people call them "tradicional"... I prefer the word "proper"... Although the Saar are somewhat on the border line: commercial postcards should be used. Not the ones issued for the évent, like the ones shown.

The Sverdlovsk maxicard above is very nice - I like the visual concordance between card, stamp, and postmark!

Maxicards created on the theme of Detective Conan (the manga) on 19 January – the date Detective Conan started being serialised in magazine – using 5 Detective Conan pictorial postmarks available in Tottori Prefecture where the author’s hometown Hokuei is located. [This image shows all 5 pictorial cancels. The bottom 4 cards makes up a series; their corresponding cancels with similar design pattern are also all offered in Hokuei. The top one is a different card on its own right, and the cancel is offered in Tottori-shi, 40 km away from Hokuei, where the airport is located. The cancel doesn't make up a series with the rest of 4 in terms of design.] [The bottom left showing Ai Haibara in the centre uses a stamp showing the character's voice actress: Megumi Hayashibara.] [This wooden postcard is exclusively sold at Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory in Hokuei.]

Here's something a little different. Maxicards from WVD Private Postservice-Partner, Chenmitz, Germany. They seem to have ceased trading in 2010. Depicting Richard Hartmann (1809 –1878) was a German engineering manufacturer. Georgius Agricola ( 1494-1555) was a German Humanist scholar, mineralogist and metallurgist. Karl May (1842-1912) was a German author, perhaps best known for his Westerns. Marianne Brandt (1893-1983) was a German painter, sculptor, photographer, metalsmith, and designer who studied at the Bauhaus art school.

Another lot from WVD Postservice Partner Hieronymus Lotter (c. 1497-1580), architect and builder in Leipzig and Saxony. August Horch (1888-1951) was a German engineer and automobile pioneer, the founder of the manufacturing giant that eventually became Audi. August der Starke, Augustus II the Strong (1670-1733) was Elector of Saxony from 1694 as well as King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. Robert Schuman (1810-1856) German composer and pianist.

Ammomanes Grayi from South West Africa, now Namibia.
According to the folks at Wiki, its common name, Gray's lark, is a species of lark in the family Alaudidae. It is found in south-western Africa in its natural habitat of hot deserts.

Cancelled in Hay River (NT) where the large roadside attraction of an Inukshuk (which features on the stamp) is located. Note that Hay River no longer offers the old pictorial showing an inukshuk (which is too bad, for it would be more concordant with the theme of this card):

Maxicard about refugees, mailed to me as a postcard without cover, a few years AFTER the creation of the maxicard. Created for the Vienna (Wien) office of the United Nations Postal Administration. Mailed to me, courtesy of Linda and her Swiss postcrosser, from Switzerland, which also hosts an UNPA office. Therefore, I received it in USA, which hosts in New York City another UNO office. My maxicard "unites" the 3 countries with UNO offices. The refugees from natural cataclisms or war zones are unfortunate people, who deserve "a helping hand" so they can restore their lives.

A few maxicards of Kenroku-en located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture, in 4 seasons. Kenroku-en is commonly referred to as one of the 3 Great Gardens of Japan. The matching pictorial cancel is offered at the post office named after the garden. [Date of cancellation: 6 March 2024.] [The cancel on this card narrowly avoided covering the stamp ...] I guess by 'traditional maximaphily', only the first card (snowy landscape) counts as a maxicard, all else that use a white sticker are not qualified for being maxicards. Japanese people like to use stickers nevertheless. I guess the reason is that their pictorial cancels are of the dark-red colour, which, unlike black colour, doesn't stand out on most of colour combination (unless the image is of a fairly homogenous light colour). Japan offers a wealth of beautifully designed pictorial postmarks that are highly sought after by world's collectors; it would be a shame to not add them to maximaphily only because of the ink colour. Also, without adapting to the modern trend that commercialised postcards are hardly ever seen without a glossy surface (which would requires the use of a matte-finish spray or a sticker), maximaphily cannot continue to exist. For these reasons I who used to deem the use of sticker as 'cheating' have now embraced this method.

Maxicard of Signpost Forest Gateway to the Yukon realised in Watson Lake (YT). The pictorial cancel they have right now is sightly different from the previous version. I am just glad that they still offer one that corresponds to this roadside attraction of Canada.

It would be cool to create maxicards with these stamps from Burundi. Are they still valid for postage, or they are too old? Do you know anybody in Burundi? How about other African countries?

The first postmarking result I received from Nunavut! Maxicards realised in Iqaluit (NU): (I have the feeling that the Postmaster had difficulty holding the cancel ...)
