Very nice strike and stamps seem to be in very condition for this age. I have a couple of Vic BN's (Victoria Barred Numerals) on cover: Port Melbourne (originally Sandridge) and the front:

Help, I'm lost! Well, not really. But I thought this was an interesting cancel. I'm sure I have a few other examples in my piles of stuff where the cancellation on an Australian state stamp doesn't match the stamp, but this one had a nice clear postmark that really jumped out and grabbed me. Stamp from Victoria, cancellation from Tasmania (post-federation). Ryan

I make no apologies for the state of these stamps, one needs a Sultan's ransom to afford them. (A bit like Melbourne's current housing market) I sweep the floor when the big boys leave the auction room. 1860 Steiner Page 5

This Victoria Revenue Stamp, Scott #AR10 (1884-96), and the two postage stamps below it, #219 (1905-10), and #169 (1890-95) are the extent of Victoria stamps I have. The revenue stamp has the higher CV value, although it's used, with a light cancel, and has a crease that's visible from the reverse.

Ok feebletodix I must admit I did not look to much in the earlier postings. Is this what should be in here? Or am I still far out in the woods?

yes, this is the right place for State of Victoria, and a lovely clear example of a Hamilton hand cancellation from 1898 it is too.

This was mixed in a lot of Great Britain Queen Victoria's I just received from a collector in Argentina 1905-10 Sc# 219 ( I belive this to be the "rose reed" Cancellation- looks to be Melbourn(e) not sure how to guess at the date (or maybe time) Impression is somewhat questionable- lots of broken/incomplete lines... but nothing about Australia or it's states and forgeries I could come up with anyway, unexpected surprises abound! Cheers!

If you really want to do it, I suggest using only cold water, preferably demineralized, one stamp at a time.
Or leave everything as it is.
If you wash them, it makes me anxious even if the stamps are yours.

Does anyone know if any of these have unstable inks ? I'd like to remove the hinge remnants (with the exception of 2 unused) Stan, I have generally soaked Victoria stamps in warm tap water without any issues. But you may want to test a single violet one before immersing all of those. GB violet stamps from the same era will fade in water.

If all you are removing are hinge remnants, I've had luck just floating the stamps face up on top of the water.
