A new silver stamp issued by the Netherlands and showing the 3737 Jumbo locomotive: The scan came out better than I expected. Often these silvery stamps just reflect the light back and one gets a grey-black sludge.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

The old collection I am going through includes this small group of railway letter stamps from the Netherlands c1920. I found this great site about them www.railwaystamps.online/rwletstamps.html There are 3 varieties of the 40 cent which just goes to show that something as simple as these can be a major study field.

I decided to list these on eBay for my friend rather than have them disappear into a box of duplicates in his online estate sale. Turned out that 2 bidders in the Netherlands wanted them pretty bad. They are headed there tomorrow. As is often the case it is the unusual stuff that brings surprises.

From the 2023 set of French souvenir sheets for the "Philatelic Heritage Treasures" series, this revisiting of the "air-train" stamp from 1970: As the blurb says, this design never made it past the prototype stage. But if you take a (normal) train from Paris to Orléans, you can still see sections of the test track built for it.

Opened in 1863, the Tren de Sarrià (Sarrià railway), runs between that village (since 1922, a neighbourhood of Barcelona) and Barcelona. Despite its short lenght (4.6 km) it was very important for the communications between our city and the (then) countryside.
Now, the Tren de Sarrià, integrated on the Great Barcelona public transport, but still an independent company, runs underground with very modern and comfortable units, and it's still very useful for us.

I have been shopping for a US 114 and I am really unhappily surprised at the condition and the CANCEL on that stamp. Back in the day the USPO must have seriously believed in making sure a stamp could never be re-used. Those cancels are serious killer cancels. Even when the price of the stamp starts getting up there the stamps all look like they have been hit by the same cancel. So far on most you cannot even tell that it is a train stamp. Very disappointing I must say. Nick

For the 100 years of its national train service, the Austrian postal service came up with a thick stamp that is actually more of a fridge magnet than a postage stamp. The bottom part, which looks like blue selvedge reproducing a train station sign, has a magnetic strip on the back, and the stamp itself is about 2mm thick:

I’ve always loved trains and even as a child, I’d rather go on a train ride than ride a roller coaster. So, of course, I had to buy this cover just for smiles.
