My son also wanted me to post this series of stamps for the "Far Away Islands" (Zil Eloigne in créole), the first one issued for this district of the Seychelles, in 1980:

I find the King George VI Seychelles stamps to be pretty unusual compared to the other British Colony issues. They were printed by Harrison and Sons who also printed the Virgin Islands and later Mauritius issues. The stamps were printed using a photogravure process which is totally unlike the other issues of the time. You will also find that hinges do not come off these issues very easily. I find most of the Seychelles stamps are either Never Hinged, or still have Hinges attached to them. I guess it is the composition of the gum that causes this to happen.
The first King George VI set of stamps were produced from 1938 until the late 1940's, so there are not a lot of printings. I was able to sort them by looking at the color changes and then comparing the chalk compared to ordinary paper changes, and finally the look of the paper and gum as seen on the back of the stamp. My collection is based on several sources including the Crown Agents report of the printings as well as the King George VI Collectors Society and Potter & Shelton tables. The last page is inserted below.
Please use this link to see the whole thing. I am still missing one stamp - the 75c 1948 printing on chalk paper. It should have white gum as seen from the back. Please let me know if you have one for sale or trade.

This appears to be the same corner cut, from a postal card, as the one James posted in the original post. This one however, is surcharged 6c and is used with a SON cancel.

Series from the Seychelles to celebrate their independence in 1976. Interestingly enough, the flag displayed on the last stamp was not the design kept.
