I received these flags in the mail yesterday. They are, from right to left, the flags of Georgia, Guam and Hawaii, Scott 4285, 4286 and 4287 respectively. The stamps are all part of the Flags of Our Nation issue; they are tagged, self-adhesive coil stamps serpentine die cut 11 vertical that were issued on September 2, 2008.  |

The Hawaii flag looks pretty "British" to me.....history wise....they must have been friends....

Today, Beryllium Guy and I met again for one of our stamp lunches, and he was kind enough to endow me with a little part of his big giveaway. I was very pleased to receive the following stamps from San Marino, from the FDR memorial series of 1946 and 1947: During his Christmas vacation, he was also able to go through many of my duplicates, and I think I am nearing enough so I can claim a big prize (I'll keep the surprise for later), so more stamp days in our future... |

North Vietnamese issue from 1960 for the Worker's Party Congress. In my grandfather's Harris album from that period, there are no pages for North Vietnam or for mainland China after 1949, as these countries were under US embargo. So those stamps would have been illegal for me to order in the US back then!  |

I wonder what Victory they were commemorating ? Interesting stamp. Never seen it before. Indeed, I didn't remember the 1973 war ending as a victory on the Egyptian side (hence my neutral wording in the description), but stamps are state-sponsored propaganda, after all. There is a companion issue to this stamp showing Anouar-el-Sadate and his generals planning the offensive, too. |
