I won't argue with that. They are part of an even bigger series showing lots of other #1 stamps from other countries. They came as an accompaniment to a subscription I have for German states stamps, so I kept them, but would probably not have seeked them out otherwise. Or at least they would have been pretty low on my wish list.

Among the stock cards, I snatched one of old-ish Italian stamps right before Beryllium Guy saw it. It contained these two stamp-on-stamp issues. But the interesting one for both of us one that card was a stamp from Italian Eritrea (which we'll show tomorrow). Probably left there by mistake.  |

Received this week, this souvenir sheet from Belgium, commemorating the centenary of the attachment of the township of "neutral Moresnet" to Belgium. Moresnet is located immediately south of the point where the borders of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany meet. At the time of Belgium founding in 1830, no agreement was found between Belgium and Prussia as to by which country the town should be administered, so in the end a triangular sliver of neutral territory was created. Germany annexed the town in 1915 after its invasion of Belgium during WWI, but the Treaty of Versailles in 1919 awarded it back to Belgium. It looks from the stamp on the right that Moresnet had its own local postage stamps, though I had never seen those mentioned anywhere before. Does anyone on TSF have some samples to show?  |
