These souvenir sheets were issued at the end of 1945 to denote the termination of the issuance of local postal tax stamps in the city of Barcelona in Catalonia. The first sheet was issued to raise funds for the city of Barcelona and the second sheet, with an unauthorized diagonal "NAVIDAD 1945" overprint, was sold to raise funds for Christmas charities. The sheets are listed, respectively, as Edifil BA NE 31 and Edifil BA NE 32. The sheets I have show double perforations on the first and a misregistered overprint on the second. These are likely deliberate "errors" produced to create collecting varieties, thereby generating additional revenues for the city and/or printer. Despite the 1945 issuance date, the stamp designs commemorate the Barcelona International Exposition of 1929. Like many postal tax stamps issued by the city of Barcelona from 1929 to 1945, the revenues were collected to recover the city's costs associated with hosting this exposition. The stamps fit into several topical collecting categories: Postal Tax Stamps; Fiscal/Revenue Stamps; Stamps-on-Stamps; and World's Fairs & Expositions.

Well, these stamps commemorated the end of the hatred tax upon Barcelona province post lasting from 1929 to 1945. By then, the Expo 1929 deficit, had been paid many times, they say.
But, we must keep in mind that that was just the begining of Franco's dictatorship, that was to last up to that man death in 1975. "Very hard times"...My late father used to say.
I'm showing some of the "normal stamps". Despite of being from Barcelona, my collection is not particularly strong on these stamps.

Half of the stamps issued by Zaïre for the PhilBelZa (Belgium-Zaïre Stamp Show) in 1980. Each stamp exists with either the logo of the show on the right and the stamp-on-stamp on the left or vice-versa:

Recent Greenland block issue celebrating the 75 th anniversary of the "USA issues":
Interestingly enough, the old stamps pictured are not the actual ones that were issued. The kayak motif was used for the 2 kroner issue in green, and the bird for the 5 kroner in sepia. What we have here are likely reproduction of early proofs.

I usually refrain from posting scans in the same thread more than once a day to avoid overwhelming the forum readership, but this is a special case. Beryllium Guy sent me a question about the South African stamp-on-stamp issue of 1953 celebrating a hundred years of the COGH triangles. I also pointed out they made another appearance in 1990 for the sesquicentenial of the Penny Black, honoured on National Stamp Day then. So here they are: I have duplicates of the 1990 full set and of the 1d 1953 issue, which will be on their way to Oxford shortly, as a thank-you for a favour Chris did for me, and which we will post about in the near future. BTW, if other members are aware of other stamp-on-stamp issues featuring COGH triangles, he would love to know about them!

Thanks, Xavier ( hrdoktorx)! You are always quick on the response.... way better than yours truly! Yes, indeed, thanks to Londonbus1 who first showed me a COGH triangle Cinderella and daniel, who gifted me a sheet of my very own, I have finally woken up to the fact that as a celebrated stamp icon in its own right, the COGH triangles have naturally been used for stamp-on-stamp issues. How could I have failed to consider that? Anyway, now that I have realized it, I have decided to start a side collection of COGH triangle stamp-on-stamp issues, and I imagine that there must be more out there, perhaps especially in the Cinderella area. As I do not know so much about Cinderellas or stamps-on-stamps, I will tag a few others to ask for comments: LB1, Daniel, Joan ( cursus), Ryan, tomiseksj, vikingeck, salentin, blaamand, tobben63, Don ( stamphinger), Terri ( philatelia), Dave ( Philatarium).... Looking forward to learning about other possible issues that honor the Lady of Hope! Thanks, Chris

Threads like this seem to need an index. How do you know what has not been posted? A need that in all likelihood will go unmet. I always go back through the thread to see if the item has already been posted. That isn't too much trouble in shorter threads. In threads like the Postmark Calendar, that would take forever so instead I use the Forum's search function.

Looking forward to learning about other possible issues that honor the Lady of Hope! Try the following search term in Google - this comes up with 20+ hits for me, including this nice Saint Helena set and a couple of tricky South African listings (tricky because they show a stamp under the influence of the COGH triangle, but the stamps themselves are marked as South Africa stamps, so technically speaking they aren't the original COGH stamps being shown).
