Probably an 1884 Gibbons #99 , Scott #69, Michel 47 A or B depending on perf 13.5 or 11.5  |

That's rather similar in design to a GB postcard indicium that I have floating around. Not exact, but close enough that I suspect it is a cut square.

These stamps are part of the 1920 series commemorating the ascension of Sultan Mahomet VI. I give you here the relevant page from my Yvert & Tellier 1938 WW catalog (originally my grandfather's), which has good pictures of the overprints:  In your set I see, in the order on your card: YT# 607a - 609 - 605 YT# 607 - 600 - 611 YT# 602 - 604 - 601 The Arabic overprint translates as "Anniversary of the ascension to the throne of His Majesty - 13 July 1334" (which is 1918 in the Islamic calendar). We definitely need a good Arabic reader on TSF! |

I will be glad to help decipher any stamp from the Arab world at any time, unfortunately not Ottoman Turkish stamps.Although Arabic alphabet was used during the Ottoman empire, the script was written to fit the Turkish language. Making it impossible for me to read or understand old Turkish, except for some few words we used to share .

Jad Bombadil, sorry for my mistake! I did not realize that the Arabic script on old Ottoman stamps is different than typical Arabic. Well, that’s my lesson for today! |

Guessing all your questions have been answered Frog! Only confusing because all the overprints are different in that series - there's 24 stamps in the series & something like 20-21 different overprint designs. You can tell most from the negative tughra in the circle element.
Nice catalog page hrdoktorx! Never saw that before - Scott could take a lesson from 1938!!

Thanks Mr Roth et al. I was pretty confident that's where they belonged but with out any pictures or illustrations of the overprints Scott's fails miserably here.Wasn't there some talk awhile ago of some countries Scott's favored over others? I remember helping Mom with Equatorial New Guinea and Scott's was terrible.

For identification of general worldwide, I use stampworld.com a lot. The web site has images for every issue for most countries and you can search by year/decade, denomination, etc. It may not have some minor varieties but visually I can find stamps then using issue dates find it in Scott.

The two stamps are same design/denomination, but slightly different shade of green and the one with the overprint is is ~4mm shorter in height but this seems to because of the margins as the printed area is the same in both I see no examples of an overstike (if that is indeed what it is) perforations appear correct according to Scott   Thanks! |

I've narrowed this down to Turkey, March 14, 1913, originally 2pa olive-green Sc#237 illustration type A22 perf is 12, but I cannot find when/where the surcharge was implemented  |
