Notification-of-Receipt card (bank remittance card) for the equivalent of $50 sent from the State Bank in Moscow to Pryluky, Poltava (16/2) and returned from there to Moscow, 21/2. The card is franked at 12k - the special NOR rate corresponding to the registered intercity letter rate (one-way). Instead of a registration label, a blue-border insured-letter one was applied. These cards were then forwarded in batches to the dispatching bank - in this case American Express.

This day in 2014 was a cold one in Minneapolis, my friends. Apparently it was only 20F (-7 C), with blizzards. But, as they say, what else is new? Question: what does the L after the time of day indicate? I have always meant to ask.

Here is another modern machine cancel, this time from last year in St. Louis. It went through the system at 8pm.
Hey, I just realized that the stamp depicts a cardinal, and the St Louis baseball team is the Cardinals. And now I am wondering if there are people that collect covers in which the stamp matches the mascot of the local sports team. Ooh, Royal Mail did produce a magpie stamp. Now I really need one that was postmarked in Newcastle.

15th February (1895) Belgium, postal stationery cut-square, 10-centime orange brown on thin cardboard, similar to Scott #65 (design #A28), postmarked on this date in 1895 in Brussels. I acquired this item from bobby1948 as part of the "Big Blue Volume 1 Giveaway", and what a nice piece it is.... thanks, Bobby!

Cover from Kostroma, Soviet Union to Berlin, 24/2/1934 (backstamp). Franked correctly at 35k with definitives. The non-standard registration label is quite generic: a perfed piece of rectangular paper with a pre-printed registration number. A “Kostroma” has been handwritten on it.

Andrew, I just wanted to offer a special thanks for your post today. Amazingly for me, the date of your postmark is my Mom's date of birth: 17th Feb 1926. She passed away in 2005, but I always remember her birthday. Thank you very much for your post, it means a lot to me.

17th February (1922) Australia, Scott #27, 2-pence brown orange definitive stamp depicting King George V, postmarked on this date in 1922 in Oberon, New South Wales. From Wikipedia: "Oberon is a town and local government area (see Oberon Shire) in the central tablelands of New South Wales, Australia. The main industries are farming, forestry and wood products. The town usually receives snowfall during the winter months, owing to its high elevation. At the 2011 census, Oberon had a population of 2,459 people. Oberon is located near Jenolan Caves and the Kanangra-Boyd National Park." View of the beautiful landscape near Lake Oberon

3k postal card from Dedyukhin, Perm to Kiev. Franked at the domestic postcard rate of 5k with the addition of a 2k imperf Arms. Unclear if the card reached its destination – in January the Ukrainian National Republic had proclaimed its independence, BUT Kiev was taken by the Red Army between 9/2 and 28/2.
Dedyukhin was located on the left bank of the Kama river and was centered around the salt mines. In 1932 it became part of the city of Berezniki. In 1954, after the construction of the Kama reservoir, the territory of the formed Dedyukhin was submerged under water.
