I remember seeing this stamp for the first time MANY years ago and wondered why are these 2 guys holding a tuque on a stick.

...I remember seeing this stamp for the first time MANY years ago and wondered why are these 2 guys holding a tuque on a stick. Perhaps they took the "Arms of the Argentine Republic" a bit too literally...

July 3, 1978 from Prague.
A mass produced CTO of #2179 (gum intact) presumably cancelled four days after the first day of issue, indicating they didn't wait to cancel them as remainders.

Baltimore! Ceviche! On modern machine cancels such as the above, what does the "L" after the time stand for?

Here is a FDC from Sydney Australia, posted this day in 1961. It would have been so much better if it had been posted from Antarctica instead!

This is a souvenir cover noting a parchment sent from the Vatican to the Hachiville Hermitage, in northern Luxembourg. Below is a rough Google translation of the note on the reverse of the cover. The stamp they used celebrated the 100th Annivesrary of birth of Winston Churchill, issued on April 29, 1974. 1,000,000 were printed. It was the most recent issue. <remember - this is from Google Translate! I altered a couple words it mis-translated>
Papal Bull in parchment of Sixtus IV, Pope, dated July 17, 1474, addressed to Peter Stolpart de Hachiville, with lead seal bearing the effigy of the Apostles St. Peter and St. Paul of Rome and SS Sixtus IV (1471-1484) Sixte IV, servant of the servants of God… Greetings and Apostolic Blessing to Peter Stolpart, rector of the parish church of Alchisvilla (Hachiville) in favor of the CHAPEL OF THE HOLY VIRGIN MARY NEAR THE BLESSED FOUNTAIN, consecrated by Louis, Bishop of Liege. Chapel N.D. IN GREAT VENERATION: PURPOSE OF PILGRIM CROWDS must be enlarged, with altars (of value) surrounded by houses for Fathers and pilgrims. That the chapel is a profit free of Liege... Given in Rome near Saint Pierre in the year of the Incarnation of the Lord on July 17, 1474 in the third of our Pontificate. Sixth IIII PP

5 kopecks Soviet PSE used as a blank in post-Soviet Ukraine from Lutsk to Rovno (backstamp of 8/7). A "Ukraine Post 9" violet handstamp with trident was used to denote payment of the 9krb domestic letter rate. A 10 krb Ukrainian definitive was used to pay the registration charge (1 krb overpayment). PSE commemorating the 4th World Lithuanian Sports Games.

20 kopecks Russian Imperial Arms, cancelled after the October Revolution on railway Traveling Post Office Kharbin-262-Manchzhuriya of the Chinese Eastern Railway. In all probability this Russian-operated TPO was, at this point in time, in the hands of anti-Bolshevik forces.

July 7, 1967 from Barranquilla via airmail, presumably sent with additional postage stamps
My Scott catalog erroneously calls this stamp "Monochaetum orchid and bee". It is not an orchid.

A nice little cover from Minneapolis to Hillsboro, ND, that was postmarked on this day in 1953. There is also a partial postmark on the back of the envelope. Inside was a short note thanking the sender for a birthday gift.

Inside was a short note thanking the sender for a birthday gift. That back-stamp looks like a mirror image from the letter under it. The cancel on the stamp is missing, as the ink was in all likelihood absorbed more readily than the cancel on the envelope. I just wonder what the lone "1" on the side means...

Franking labels printed from an automatic labels-printing machine were used on this registered cover. It was sent on this date in 1984 from Esch-sur-Alzette to Strassen, and arrived there the next day, as evidenced by a back-stamp. Michel calls these “Distributers Stamps”. They were first issued on July 18th, 1983. Each machine had an identifying number, in this case - “P 2503”, which was located in (where else?)... Esch-sur-Alzette! Other locations were ... P 2501: Luxembourg Centre - Outside Post office P 2502: Luxembourg (Train) Station, Outside P 2503 Esch-sur-Alzette P 2504: Mersch P 2505: Luxembourg (Train) Station, Inside P 2506: Luxembourg Centre - Inside Post office P 2507: Ettelbruck
