April 26, 1978 Panama Canal Zone, Scott#163 depicting the dredge Cascadas, postmarked Balboa, C.Z. This stamp is a definitive, although like a few of the CZ definitives, it's size is like that of a commemorative. Below are two frame grabs from an 8mm film my granddad made in the 1950's of a transit through the canal. He was an employee working at the Pedro Miguel locks at the time. They show the Cascadas at work near some widening being done in the Culebra Cut.

April 29th, 1922. Upper Silesia. Can't quite read the name of the town on the postmark, though.

Here is one for this day (29 April) in 1992, postmarked in Porte Pagado, Chile and sent to Natania, Israel. The stamp is Scott 982, released 4 November 1992. Looks like the sender had some leftover Christmas stamps to use up.

The first (non-denominated) Soviet postal card, issued December 1923 "exclusively for domestic use", cancelled on POSHT. 177 VAG. (cds of TPO Voronezh-Kiev postal wagon) and addressed to Stalino (“bilingual” Russian/Ukrainian cancellation of 2/5). Stalino is present-day Donetsk. The TPO cds is a rare type of Ukrainian PW dated cancelers without the names of the route terminals, applied at the end of the 1920’s on some routes. The card is the message half of a 3+3k double card.

I have a couple for today's date (30 April). The first postmark will probably be familiar with many of you (Bellefonte, PA). The other is from Stockton, CA, on this date in 1968. Back in 1968 you could mail a letter for 6c, as well as get a shave and a haircut for two bits.

The center is the town of Fallin. Thank you, Kosmo. I stand corrected for the present-day location (Estonia, instead of Latvia). The postmark should be therefore that of Fellin. the center of the county (uezd).

May 3, 1942 Newfoundland, Scott#255. I'm not sure about this one. I suppose this is a pen cancel (not something I have much knowledge of). And I'm not sure if it's "May / 3 / 42" or "May 13 / 42".

Here is one from 4 May 1966, postmarked in Berkeley, CA. Unfortunately this was mailed a good four years before abctoo started working for the Berkeley post office, so he did not handle this one.
