18th January (1962) Spain, Sc 1023, 1-peseta ocher and dark red commemorative stamp, depicting the Garden of the Monks and the Escorial Monastery postmarked on this date in 1962. The location name on the CDS is not readable, but the last letter appears to be "D", so it may well have been Madrid. This stamp is the 3rd value in a set of 6, and the set was originally issued on 31st October 1961. This stamp was sent to me in 2017 as part of a lot that was a gift from nl1947, former TSF member and Newsletter editor.

20th January (1898) Very nice post for today, Peter ( brightonpete )! I really like a classic Canadian stamp with a nice, clear postmark. So, taking a cue from you, I will also choose a classic from Canada, too, and one from my all-time favourite set.... Canada, Sc 53, 3-cent bright rose Queen Victoria 60th Jubilee commemorative stamp, postmarked on this date in Bromley Line, Ontario in 1898. In doing a quick web search on Bromley Line, Ontario, references state that Bromley Line is a road in a town called Westmeath. Is anyone from Ontario able to clarify the status? It seems a little odd to have a postmark labelled for a road, unless perhaps there was a particular post office on that road, which used that name to identify itself. Any comments welcome!

25th January (1892) Haiti, Sc 36, 7-centime red, definitive stamp depicting the coat of arms "with drooping leaves" (Scott description, design type A9), postmarked on this date in Port-au-Prince in 1892. I neglected to check the perforations on this stamp prior to scanning, so there is a chance that I have not identified this correctly, but I do not have access to the actual stamp at the moment. I have, therefore, assumed it is the least valuable of the two possible stamps. I will try to remember to check it when I am back in California in April. Edit: I also want to give a shout-out of thanks to Robert WERT for his earlier post about my Bromley Line, Ontario postmark. Great information, Robert, thank you very much, indeed! I had not really considered that the cancel might have been railroad related, so that news makes me like it all the more. Please accept my apologies for this late acknowledgement of your very fine and prompt response. To Peter ( brightonpete ), I really like your latest post with the stamp from Upper Silesia. Very nice; I love stamps and postmarks from short-lived stamp-issuing entities. Great stuff!

26th January (1923) Germany, Sc 181, 10-mark carmine and rose definitive stamp with post-horn design, postmarked on this date in 1923 in Weiden, a town in the Oberpfalz. Many thanks to Gavin ( feebletodix) for help in figuring out the correct town identification (see next post).

Hello Beryllium Guy assuming the partial mark to the left is the same handstamp being used the name can only be Weiden. Rarely does a datestamp shift position in the hand when striking a row of stamps so the orientation generally stays the same. This means there is not enough space in the top of the cancel to put any more letters in. The I? is suggestive of initials to indicate the district und Oberpfalz, followed by the town code 512.

25¢ official stamp from Saargebiet The Territory of the Saar Basin was a region of Germany occupied and governed by the United Kingdom and France from 1920 to 1935 under a League of Nations mandate. After a plebiscite was held in 1935, it was returned to Germany. (Why is it that every time I paste the text for this post, the quotes around the font size number always double when I go to preview it?)
