I am sorry for the poor quality, but this was the best I could manage today. For some reason the date May 23th is virtually non-existent on stamps and covers in my collection. The stamp is from a series issued in 1987 depicting various scenes from Astrid Lindgren's books. The postmark is from Skellefteå 1, the main post office in that town. The type is 59G, a rubber stamp that nearly always ruins the day for a collector.

Not quite all...
In going through my world-wide collection, I spotted these covers with reception cancels of today. The stamp on these covers was issued when the Falklands/Malvinas War was being waged. The first cover was mailed from Port Stanley to Buenos Aires. The second, sent from Buenos Aires to the Malvinas, both clearly philatelic curiosities. But an interesting part of history to say the least. Note that the stamp overprinted "Las Malvinas Son Argentinas" lists as 50 cents in Scott's, but a whopping $18.29 (Canadian) at Stampworld! It was issued April 22, 1982, although Scott's erroneously lists it as April 17, 1982. Scott #1338
EDIT 2020-05-31: How quickly one forgets... the "Argentine: Stamps" thread tells the story. Phosphor paper is cheap, plain paper expensive, and all mine are of the phosphor variety.

27th May (1878) Guatemala, Sc 13, 4-reales violet stamp depicting an "Indian Woman" according to Scott (Design Type A7), postmarked in Guatemala City on this date in 1878, 142 years ago today. Thanks to Ryan for help in confirming the location of the CDS (see next post). Note on provenance: this stamp was part of the 19th Century album pages that I bought from "Atout Philatélie" in Aix-en-Provence during my time there in 2018. The CDS seems a bit oddly generic to me, with no city/town name. Can anyone tell me if this was typical for Guatemala at that time?

The CDS seems a bit oddly generic to me, with no city/town name. Can anyone tell me if this was typical for Guatemala at that time? "Guatemala" as a cancellation referred to Guatemala City, the capital of the country. There's a 12-page exhibit on Guatemalan postmarks on the International Society of Guatemala Collectors website which has many such examples. There are also various major collections and exhibits online with many other examples noted explicitly as being from Guatemala City even though the postmark only reads "Guatemala" - see this one from Spink and this one from Christoph Gärtner, for example. I guess it's sort of like the way we will say "New York" to mean New York City. Ryan

28th May (1912) Tunisia, Sc 43, 35-centime, olive green & brown pictorial stamp showing the Ruins of Hadrian's Aqueduct (per the Scott Catalogue), postmarked on this date in Tunis in 1912. According to Wikipedia: By comparison, the famous Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct in France is 50km (31 miles) in length, so the Aqueduct of Carthage is long indeed. My contribution today is a stamp from 1972 celebrating the bicentenary of birth of the Swedish poet Frans Michael Franzén. It is relatively easy to find good cancellations from the small village of Kåge. It is probably because a philatelic mail order company was (is still?) located there.

What an excellent series of posts on the Postmark Calendar thread! I wonder if this is a record number. Fortunately I can contribute today, having a postmark for 30 May 1980, Alameda, California. (Thanks again, stainlessb for sending me his grandmother's wonderful postmark collection.)
On the 30 May 1980, Alameda was in the middle of a brutal race for CountyTreasurer-Tax Collector between incumbent James Scully and challenger Robert Knox. Here is part of an article from The Berkeley Gazette of that day. The clipping is not really big enough to read the text - I was mainly just tickled by the photos of the two candidates. James Scully looks like he is drunk and in the middle of having a good laugh at somebody's joke.

That Leprena postmark is lovely, and scarce, rated 2R. Very nice Sherro!! I was hoping you might see this post and respond. I know little about Aussie postmarks, but I am glad to receive your comments about this one. I had such a hard time finding any mention about Leprena, I wondered if it might be hard to come by. The Wikipedia write-ups refer to it as a township, but judging by the context that it was a timber-logging community in the farthest reaches of southern Tasmania while timber was being harvested there up until the 1930s, it sounds like it was always a small place. Well, if this item is anything special, it was totally a lucky find in a mixed lot from somewhere. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then, they say.

German 25pf Hindenburg definitive, Scott wmk126 (Network), Michel 2, issued on October 1st, 1932. Likely cancelled at Stolpe (Parchim). If it is this Stolpe (there are 4!) it is a tiny village a couple kilometres southwest of Parchim, which is midway between Hamburg and Berlin.

31st May (1935) Belgium, Sc 262, 70-centime olive black definitive stamp depicting King Leopold III, postmarked on this date in 1935 in what has now been identified as ABEELE (GRENS), as explained by cjoprey . Many thanks, Chris, for figuring this out (see next post). Thanks Chris ( Beryllium Guy ) for the dedication! Of course, I had to do some research on the interesting postmark on your stamp. Sadly it won't be Baarle-Hertog as their postmark quite clearly shows the entire name with the hyphen. However, I think I may have an answer for you. First of all, "grens" is the Dutch and Flemish word for "border", so we know we're looking for a border town. Limiting to this, we find there is a small town called Abeele in Flemish (Abele in Walloon) which lies on the southern border of Belgium with France, near the coast. I then found the following for sale on the Delcampe site, which bears out my findings I think, as it bears an uncanny resemblance to your stamp:
Hope that helps! Chris
