Denmark is probably one of the oldest kingdoms in the world. The Millenial was celebrated in this series running between 1953-1956. The postmark is from Copenhagen, the capital.

11th June (1928) Italy, Sc 97, 20-centisimi brown orange definitive stamp depicting King Victor Emmanuel III, Scott Design Type A49, postmarked on this date in 1928 in what appears to be CANNERO, but I am not confident, as the only listing I could find is for a Cannero Riviera in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. I was hoping that the name at the bottom of the CDS might be able to help, but I can't figure out what it is. Ludovico ( rex) or Ryan or anyone else, can you comment? Any input on location would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm guessing, at the bottom of the CDS it could be Novara, is possibile that Cannero was under the province of Novara in those years. Verbano- Cusio- Ossola is the province in our day. Unfortunately I don't have all my books Chris Beryllium Guy , otherwise I could be more confident. This stamp is also called Michetti a sinistra because the King is looking left, Michetti is the one who designed the stamp.

12th June (1875) Austria, Sc 29, 5-kreuzer rose definitive stamp depicting Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Josef and postmarked on this date in 1875 in the city of Przemyśl, which was part of Austria-Hungary 145 years ago when this stamp was used, but today is located in Poland. I am not sure whether this item qualifies as a fore-runner or after-runner or something else, but it would seem to be one of those interesting uses due to border changes over the years. Perhaps Jens ( barbu ) or Jon ( blaamand ), TSF's resident fore-runner enthusiasts may be able to add to the story! G V in Medallion, 10 öre red, issued in 1911. With 777 million issued, it one of the most abundant classical Swedish stamps. The postmark is a variant of type 59. I have only seen it on cancels from Stockholm 1 and Stockholm 16 (as on this stamp) , but they are still quite common on Oscar II and G V in Medallion stamps.

May I ask what is your source? I think it originally came from handbook of Swedish Cancellation the was issued way back by the Swedish Philatelic Society. My version is from Facit Postal (1991 version). I believe this particular variant is called 59az, at least this is what you get when you check this website that lists postmarks from Stockholm: sff.nu/hembygdsfilatelisterna/pdf/Binder3.pdf (in Swedish only)

Something I've been wondering about for quite a while, with regards to this topic. It would seem that in order to show daily postmarks, one would have to organize their postmark collection by date. Is this how it is done with most of you? Or do you keep them organized by country, and maybe keep detailed electronic records and cross references in order to find a particular stamp with a particular date?

This is a great thread.I am not very organised and when I first started looking for dated postmarks,it was very hit and miss.I would often find one the day after the calendar date. These can be used next year..... It has given me the incentive to look through all my stamps and I am slowly sorting them out by month .Right now am trying to organize July postmarks. Anglobob

Linz 2 - on this day in 1919, towards the end of World War I. Most likely whoever used this stamp was seriously affected by the war, which probably hit Austria harder than any other country. The Austrian Empire had at this time fallen, lost more than one million soldiers, and only a small fraction of the former territory would emerge as the Republic of German-Austria following the Treaty of Saint-Germain on 10 September 1919.

It's an excellent question, Richard. Each member could have his/her own way of doing it. It seems to me like the two clearest ways are either: organize the stamps/covers or organize the scans. I posted this information somewhere before, but I can't remember where. Personally, I take the latter option, because I wouldn't normally organize my stamps by postmark date. I am a WW collector, so I organize my stamps by country, both used and unused together. I don't want to have to maintain separate stock books just for postmark calendar items. The only downside of my method is that occasionally, I cannot be 100% sure on the ID of a stamp, as I cannot check a watermark or perf easily from a scan. Of course, I could check that while I have the stamp in hand, but generally, I don't do it that way, as it is disruptive to my sorting process. So, as I sort through my accumulation from any given country, I pull out anything that has a readable postmark date. I take all of those stamps and put them into a black stock sheet and scan the whole sheet at 600dpi. Then I take the stamps back out of the stock sheet and continue with organizing my collection as I normally would: first by country, then by catalogue number. At some other time, when working on my computer, I pull up the file of the scanned sheet of postmarked stamps, and I edit the scanned sheets into individual images, and organize the individual images into file folders for the 12 months of the year. I create file names for the individual scans that will then be in sequence by date within each monthly folder. Then I have the ability to check my file each day to see if I have anything for the current date. I know that some members like Steve ( tomiseksj ) mentioned that he deletes the image file from the folder after he has posted it so that he doesn't use it again in the thread. I also generally try to follow that practice, but occasionally I re-post something that I had previously posted, especially if it didn't seem to get much interest the first time around. It takes some time to set this up to start, but once you have a system in place, organizing the electronic image files is pretty straightforward. Then you can deal with the stamps in whatever way you wish, and not be constrained by trying to keep them in order by date.

@beryllium Guy, You bring up a couple things I hadn't thought of. Firstly, my initial "system" is to log them into a spreadsheet, one tab for each month. These are sorted, by day, and information is added to help my locate each stamp. I add which country album it is in, which set it's in and the denomination. But what I hadn't thought of was, once I find a particular dated stamp, pull the page and scan the stamp.....where do I store the scanned stamp? I just didn't think that far ahead. I am probably overcomplicating it. I like your idea of scanning in a sheet at a time, then editing each one out individually and storing them. I will have to rethink my process.
