March 4This cover commemorating Franklin Roosevelt's first inauguration as President of the United States was postmarked on this date in 1933. It would mark the last inauguration conducted on March 4th. With ratification of the 20th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, beginning in 1937, Presidential inaugurations would be held on January 20th.

An old pair from Luxembourg...
The first, the 10 centimes Coat of Arms, issued in 1871 and cancelled early in the morning at Luxembourg City; and next... the low value 10 centimes Grand Duke William, cancelled in the north-east town of Hosingen. Not sure if that S signifies morning or evening as far as time goes. Does anyone know?

Canada Day 1979, showing the flag of New Brunswick on a postcard I sent from somewhere. I wish I kept the whole postcard. The piece is around here somewhere. It was posted by me (the Postmaster General at the time) from HMCS (Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (navy wog was I)) Kootenay (CF39). March 7 means it was either San Diego or Honolulu. I'll try to find this to possibly confirm that. It was then sent by sealed bag to Victoria, British Columbia, where it received the roller cancel. 11 Days from cancelling the stamp to reception in Toronto, that's pretty good! This stamp was issued in a pane of 12 on June 15, 1979.

Barcelona, Catalonia, March 9th 1959. The date and place when and where I was born. The stamp, a 1955 definitive, reflects that we were undergoing franco's dictatorship (not that we're much better right now...).
I bought a "calendary" with all March 1959 pm on this stamp and, by chance, the 9th has Barcelona's postmark. "9" was Barcelona's PO ordinal number, also a nice coincidence!

10 March 1929 Dahomey YT70,issued in 1925 and with a postmark from Porto Novo.  10 March 1932 Senegal YT109.The highest face value stamp in the Local Market series,issued in 1930 and mainly used on overeseas registered mail.The postmark is from N,Gaye-Meckhe,a small commune in NW Senegal.  10 March 1956 Mauritius SG293 and 297,issued in 1953 and with a postmark from Port Louis.There appears to be a 2d postage due request.  10 March 1964 Bdermuda SG165,issued in 1962 and with a postmark from Harrington Sound.  |

March 12We're approaching 7,000 posts on this thread so I thought I'd give it a nudge, with a nod toward our fellow Texans. This cover, bearing a 3 cent, dark blue, perf. 11x10.5 stamp commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Texas statehood (Scott 938, Dec 29, 1945), was postmarked on this date in Breckenridge, Texas. The stamp's design depicts flags of both the U.S. and Texas.
