Austria, issued Dec.4th,1954. The "Ulmer Ordinari" was a type of boat used on the river Danube to transport goods and passengers since the Middle Ages. The boats drifted downstream only. When they had reached their destination they were dismantled and the wood was used for other purposes. The name "Ulmer Ordinari" is composed by the city of Ulm,where the boats (Ulmer Schachtel = Ulm Box) originated from and Ordinari.Ordinari stands for "in order".Because there was a time when such boats ran down the Danube on a fixed shedule. Today they still exist for recreational purposes.

Still going through an album of covers I bought at the "Fête du Timbre" stamp show. Among the nuggets, these two Portuguese FDCs of their joint issue with Monaco in 1996: And, for completeness, the mirroring Monaco issues:

In the same album of covers, I found the FDC for the Italian RAMOGE joint issue with France and Monaco, which I was still missing. I add the two partner stamps for completeness. RAMOGE stands for St-Raphaël, Monaco and Genoa. It is an agreement about sharing maritime resources in this part of the Mediterranean.

Another goodie from the Mystery Box, which I had never seen before, a US "Documentary" revenue stamp, from the 1898 Battleship series:

Another acquisition from Monday's stamp lunch, the Newfoundland issue (Sc#146) featuring the steamship "Caribou" (here on the left), shown together with the re-engraved Sc#164 for easy comparison. Note the different heights of the flag at the stern, the spacing between the last "D" of Newfoundland and the end of the top cartouche (thanks to Beryllium Guy for showing me that marker), and the lesser shading in the curlicues around the "2" in the bottom right.

Received this week-end on approval, the 3 roupie German Ost-Afrika "SAS Hohenzollern" stamp. It's a bit pricey, so I'm still unsure whether I'll buy it or not, but I'm leaning yes.

The post I tried to make did not appear as intended.I tried to enhance it,but that did not work.I tried to delete it,but again failed. Finally I ran out of time and patience...
Anyway,Michel 39 is listed in 8 varieties.39Ad is listed at about five times the price of the two cheapest varieties. Difficult decision... But it looks very nice....

for the info, salentin ! My catalogs for German East-Afrika are only the YT Africa and AFA Europe (which includes German colonies), but they list only this issue with a single number, describing it as "3 roupies, carmine and green". And a catalog price for an MNH copy quite lower than the asking price here, as they are likely intending it for the most common variant. I'd be very interested to know the details of the differences between variants, if you get the patience to try again!

Hmmm, my Michel Junior 2011 just lists one, in red/black colours, and yours lists 8 varieties? Quite the difference there!
