I mounted some Laos and thanks to my poor inventory I ended with 12 dupes and only one was better than what I had. I had already cut the mounts so now will try to populate empty spaces.

Good Morning Forum Friends! Yesterday I mailed a big trade using two of the 2000 $11.75 hologram issues which delighted the postal clerks who had never seen them before. They were oooooing and aaahhhing, tilting the box to see the holographic effects. Just in case the clerks questioned that the stamps were valid postage, I copied the catalog page for those. After they were nicely canceled, a piece of plastic was placed over them, so they should arrive undamaged. Fingers crossed! Today I’m the washer wench doing mending, ironing, etc. but in between loads I’m going through bags of Denmark that were part of my Christmas surprise box lot. A large percentage of the duplicates are going into the donate box, but I found many better CDS cancels - nicer than what I had, and a few of each will make up some penny lots, too. Here’s a pic of the sort in progress. FYI - That large piece of black matting cardboard on my desk is a must have - so much easier to see the perfs and even watermarks. You can buy sheets at any store that sells picture framing supplies. I highly recommend getting a piece. Once I get this pile of Denmark sorted I’m off to Finland to do some organizing and research for something I promised Chris, Beryllium Guy . Finland is one of my favorites so looking forward to opening those albums. Happy stamping!

Was able to visit one of my local(ish) brick-and-mortar stamp shops today; "Stamps at Bagleys" in Norwich, Norfolk. The lady who runs it (Anna) is lovely, and very helpful. A space stacked to the top with books and boxes containing stamps, postcards, cigarette cards and tins, coins, medals, etc... I spent some time browsing and looking throught the books Anna dug out for me, and came away with a few lovely MNH hole-fillers for my Belgium collection, and some used early Lourenço Marques and India stamps. And then I get home to find the stamps from Xavier's giveaway have also arrived.

Stamp time has been limited for a while now as those babysitting duties took over. But I have found some time over the last few days to get ready for the Tel Aviv Monthly Bourse, my only sales outlet at present. So, with most of my collections in the disposal mode, I have been preparing pages and collections ready for Tuesday. Some classic Cinderellas, small lots of various countries, remainders of a France album I broke down and a load of revenues. And more besides. I'll admit it's been fun given the lack of activity for much of the last year ! Still no buying or selling online due to the War, so purchases have been made through the Stamp Shop and Auction in Tel Aviv run by a friend of mine. I will be bidding on his live auctions tonight and tomorrow ready for collection on Tuesday (he says, hopefully !). It's good to be working with stamps again. After babysitting, which is coming up now, I will be back pricing pages of sets and small lots and making up some packets for the schoolkids. (Free for them). All good fun. I just wish the aches and pains would ease, just for a day !! Londonbus1

I got my stamping mojo back this weekend and finally finished a detailed sort of my Japan stamps. Sorted definitives by series, then commems / special stamps by year. I think I'll put together pages of the Philatelic week stamps and New Years greeting stamps, at minimum. The New Years stamps were fun because I have several of the annual greetings stamps, plus one of the 'lottery prize' souvenir sheets. So I can put a page together that tells the story of this annual Japanese tradition. That sort of thing really makes my day. It's my favourite part of collecting worldwide stamps. I can learn a cultural fun fact, write it up in my collection, then move on without stressing that I only have 6-7 of the 50+ stamps in the decades long series. It's always so interesting to see the stamps sorted by year, to see where they land on my (recently re-discovered) sorting grid. The definitives are predominantly from the 1950's and 60's, as expected. But the commemoratives tend to cluster in either 1958-61, or 1994 - 1999! I must have purchased two very different collections / packets over the years. PS - this session was longer than normal because I was fascinated by the series of paintings illustrating the poems of Matsuo Basho. The beauty of the paintings had me Googling the poet, then walking over to the bookstore to see if they had a translation of "Narrow Road to the Interior", which the stamps portrayed. No luck, but we have many bookstores.

Possibly not totally stamp-related but events here in Guayaquil and Ecuador have seriously taken a turn for the worse.A nation wide state of emergency has been declared and a curfew from 11p to 5am.This has happened after the escape from prison of one of the leaders of a drug cartel. The local Tv station was taken over by hooded delinquents and there are numerous incidents of hostage-taking and armed revolts against the police and military. All of this is connected to drug gangs who seem to be impossible to capture. Most of the stores here are now closed and every one has been told to go home and stay there. Possibly lots of time in the house, similar to the pandemia but I seem to have lost a little interest in stamping..... I have just seen this on the BBC site... www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-67930452

With a big Annual show just 12 weeks away, our club has to fill 60 exhibit Frames, each of 16 sheets. I have promised 3 .So over the weekend I have been arranging coherent displays from different collections. I have completed 16 sheets of Cape triangles, 16 sheets on the theme of Lifeboats and need to check my small exhibit of Robert Louis Stevenson in the Pacific. It was on display a couple of months ago so it should be an easy fix.
These are display not competitive exhibits but I may also enter 32 sheets that I wrote up for the TSFNewsletter in 2021 “ Samoa, a transition from Kingdom to Colony to Independence” if I get time.

Still more Germany. Using Colnect and identifying by viewing by denomination, it is taking me about 45 minutes to do a Vario page (50+ plus stamps). It is harder because I know nothing about German issues. The Colnect variant feature seems to work fairly well but does not look fully implemented (not a criticism).
I downloaded the latest Steiner pages for German empire (spaces up to 1949), Germany classic (up to 1937), and the FDR (1949 - ). I did not see any differences between the classic and regular. I have seen differences in the past.

Good Morning Fellow Stampers! Yesterday I sorted through a huge pile of Seals and Cinderellas from Scandinavia, USA and Canada. Some of you may not know this but collecting Christmas seals is really popular in Denmark. I collect Scandy, so I often get those included with collections and lots. I’ve never really had much interest in these, but the Danish ones piqued my interest so I decided to give them a go. I prefer to hunt for copies with cancels though. Anyways they often issue sheets where every stamp is different and trying to find one of each is actually rather fun! They even have booklet varieties. Here’s a pic of some of my duplicates; And here is a page from my collection - a work in progress. It will take time to find one of each! happy stamping everyone!

Wow, I'm impressed vikingeck. One of my goals is to get my collections into a state where I might arrange a non-competitive display or tell a story with extracts from my collection.
I'm curious, are you writing up pages specifically for your displays and remounting stamps, or is it more a case of pulling completed sheets from your existing collection?

Well Rob , a bit of both…….. the Cape triangles 16 sheet is more or less a complete collection already written up. The “RLS in the Pacific“ is a stand alone sub section of my Samoa collection which I have already exhibited several years ago, and does not need a re-write . over the past 20 years I have frequently displayed and talked to a number of clubs and societies ( 6 in 2023 !) so can usually put something ready made together fairly quickly . the Lifeboat story is new and purpose built … not a lot of stamp material it is mostly the Art work involved in creating the commemorative cover the club presents at the Congress which I have been developing over the past 12- 18 months. The history of Samoa from “Kingdom to colony to independence” uses pages from my collection but needs about half a dozen re-writes to knit them together coherently and as a 2 frame exhibit does require a bit of rearranging and plundering the main collection.

It will take time to find one of each! happy stamping everyone! Historically Denmark prides itself on producing the world’s first Christmas seal. In 1904 a postmaster Einar Holboll had the idea and they are sold via the Danish Post Office . Within 2 years enough money was raised to build a children’s TB sanatorium. Holboll himself is depicted on philatelia’s 1927 issue in the lot above initially a single design appeared each year , even during WW2 , but from the 1950s sheets of up to 50 with multi images have been produced

Recovering from a tiring day out in Tel Aviv, Tuesday, at the local bourse/Fair. A good day was had by all, I took almost $700 in 2½ hours so I got some sales in at last. Pics and more in the appropriate category later. Yesterday I received only my 3rd item of mail since the outbreak of War on October 7th. Two Christmas cards from the UK arrived earlier in January and yesterday from the USA, the Poster Stamp Bulletin (PSCC) ! What a surprise. It must have wiggled it's way onto an Israel Plane at JFK !! But it was nice to get an item of mail in the post. It seems like a thing of the past these days. Now to get ready for the next Fair in February. Londonbus1

I have seen differences in the past. The project at Colnect to transfer from the old Special Variant system to the new minor variant system is about 70% complete. Because of the complexities of variants, all the changeover has to be done by hand, so it is being done as quickly as the volunteer editors have time to get it accomplished. Last night I finished up the transfer work for the main Germany pre-1945 listings, so now navigating things like booklets and se-tenants for the Reich era should be much easier.

Going to Orcoexpo this weekend, still haven't had a chance to pull any albums out to figure out what I want to focus on. I keep saying I will, but I never get around to it. Last night, I had planned to, then about 11pm, my wife said "weren't you going to look at stamps?" Too late now! Hopefully tonight I can get it done and make a plan.

Well I feel like I won the lottery. My lost shipment FINALLY arrived two months after being shipped. But - it was worth the wait! I bought the lot for the Austrian stamps overprinted “Venetia-Guilia”, but inside was an unexpected bunch of Italian states and other goodies. I just had a hunch, you know what I mean? I’m fairly certain there are many forgeries, but for the price I paid, this is still a bargain and a lot of fun. There are a few I can’t identify, but I’ll save those for the Sherlock’s. Here are some pics - a tiny portion of this stockbook of Italian back of book goodies. wow , nice stamps Terry. thank you for sharing.
