I won 31 lot on Tradera (Swedish online auction) all with Italian stamps. Mostly 'hard to get' top values on series 1930-40. Got most of the for below 20% of cat value, but added up it became a solid handful of Swedish kronor.

Yesterday, we had the Artesa de Segre gathering. First i had to drive to Almacelles (180 km West from Barcelona) as my friend Josep Lluís, who lives there wanted to scan some of the cinderellas, that I've bought since our last meeting a year ago. Since many years ago, we're working on a catalog of Catalan cinderellas; but, as we live very far away, we only meet once or twice a year. I was also able to buy some cinderellas from my friend
Afterwards, we drove 55 km East to Artesa de Segre to joint our friends. There was a very small stamp exhibition and some literature and material to browse. We were just five. Then, we went to the restaurant to have lunch and we had a long stamp and life chat over the coffees. I left Artesa for Barcelona (130 km East) about 6 pm. For me, it's quite a long trip, as Catalonia is a small country (32000 sqkm) and most of us live on the East, by the Mediterranean sea.
I'm the one on the left on the second picture

Yes Michael, it was a total 405 km drive. I do it because it's I the only chance of meeting some good friends that live very far away, and because it's just once a year! But, you spend a lot of money just in petrol, about 41 €. Not counting the lunch. If you compare it to the 0.55 € that it cost me to go to the Plaça Reial every Sunday... And, if you're lucky, you might end with a lot of items for a good price... On the other hand, I like driving.

What are important in this life are 1 social contact, meeting friends, and 2 eating a nice lunch both well worth paying for. just next week I will drive 200 miles.( 320km) just for the pleasure of spending some social time with my friend Chis , Berylliumguy, and his lovely wife Amy , Maybe manage both 1&2 as I hope to show them some of the local sights.

Just came back from two weeks of vacation away from computers and stamps. Then got to work on filling my latest new stockbook with all my recent Finland acquisitions, as well as Denmark, Fiume, Scotland regionals (starts with an E in French). And there is some room left for further growth. This decompressed the Faroe Islands, Guernsey, and Gibraltar in the original stockbook as well. Then I received all the mail held from the vacation, and found in it the giveaway stamps from renden, a nice IRC stamped in Romania that Linda was kind enough to send me, a few incoming orders of which I will post the nicest pieces as I get through them. But it's still too hot to do much stamping in the evenings after work, so it will take me a while to get through everything.

It’s great to see these nice posts this morning! Joan ( cursus), I am so glad that your big event went well. I recall well when Michael ( Londonbus1) visited you and came to stay with Amy and me in Aix-en-Provence. It’s one of the best memories from my time in France, along with making friends with Xavier ( hrdoktorx) and meeting René ( renden) and his lovely wife Denise. Alex ( vikingeck), we are looking forward to seeing you soon, for sure! We missed not seeing you and michael this year at the York Fair, and we really appreciate your willingness to travel to make this happen. Our ship is in Trondheim today, so I am now headed ashore. Stay stampy, friends!

What I've been stamping? Well... I just won a 1,550 lb lot of 10s of 1000s of FDCs and other covers from Kelleher today (Aug 27 2024). I guess it's mostly US but some Great Britain, Canada, and France. It is stacked high on two pallets. I paid a wee bit more than I really wanted to but I wanted this lot. The bat sonar senses said it was good. It'll go good with the 1,100 lb lot I bought last month that I put aside for a winter project. I think this should put me over 100,000 covers of various sorts.
Nothing is sorted or organized.
I have no idea what I am going to do with them yet.
I guess I could start a business now. LOL
Oh...and then I bought 13,000 UN FDCs from a friend of mine who is shutting down his stamp business. He shot me a deal I could not refuse. I actually have those mostly sorted. I think I might have mentioned that buy in another post. If I did...so sorry.
My focus has been on getting the plate blocks somewhat organized.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

My goodness. Watch out if you have a basement. You might need to reinforce the floor!
With a lot like that, do you just start at the top of the pile and work your way down, or close your eyes and reach in deep?
PS - Congratulations, of course. If you're happy, then it's a good thing!

Funny you mention that...why yes I do have a basement. And I just happened to have replaced it in 2015. When I did I quadrupled the main beam running down the center of the house and put a large 6x6 set on a large concrete pad for support right in the center and 6x6s on each end too. (and yes...I did this myself but that is a story for another time and probably another forum...seriously off topic here...) The new addition got the same treatment. The 1,100 lb lot came shipped in 34 boxes. I opened each box as I brought them into the house and set aside what I thought were the better boxes...six or seven of them. That lot came from Kelleher too. For the 1,550 lb lot, I'm having them shipped commercial to my shop and hopefully save on shipping. I have a forklift there to unload. But then I have to transport everything home myself which is the downside. I'm very happy. Except for that intervention thing mentioned in the above post that a couple of friends have threatened...not sure if the threat is real or not Mike aka brookbam

When I got back to work last week after my vacation, a nice surprise was waiting on my desk. My Portuguese colleague, from whose father I have been buying some Portugal and Portuguese colonies stamps, was back from a family visit and had a thick envelope for me. Today I could finally find the time to do it justice, and boy id it put a smile on my face ! Let's just say my Portuguese Guinea holdings are now much more consequential, and Guiné-Bissau had to yield a few pages in their common stockbook. I'll be posting some of these nice pieces shortly. A great stamping day!

As many of you will have guessed, this month's order had a strong Thailand component. I'm not finished posting yet... But another thing I got was a third stockbook for my Monaco collection, currently in two stockbooks sorted by currency, Francs and Euros. But both are bursting at the seams. So the third stockbook will be for the "Anciens Francs" denominations, i.e. up until 1960. Since my collection is quite close to complete, I will likely set them up in (YT) catalog number order, which will then help me focus on the pesky gaps to fill... Now that the weather has cooled down somewhat, it's possible to do stamping in the evenings again.

My summer travels are over so I'm sloooowly getting back into stamping. Today it's Canada, trying to make sense of three sparsely filled stockbooks of mostly duplicates. All the definitive issues are sorted out and in a stockbook. Now I'm going through the pre-1995 commemorative issues. My album has pages through 1995, hence the odd cut-off. Post 1995 will be added to the stockbook until I make up pages. My Canada Album (a CWS 'Unity' album) is something I want to replace with my own AlbumEasy pages at some point, but that seems low on the priority list. For now, I'll be happy with one stock book of Canada needing album pages and two empty stockbooks I can re-purpose. PS - I'm volunteering with a local group to make stamp packets for free distribution at schools and local libraries. My Canadian duplicates are going right into the packet queue. If anyone here is interested in common Canadian stamps I can certainly make up a package for you. Although with the recent customs enforcement crackdown it is getting difficult to cheaply send stamps internationally.

I continue to soak and sort Austrian stamps. still lots and lots to go Received some wonderful stamps from a forum member ( wvgm3 if you are looking for stamps of France!!!) that completes a number of pages (I'll post images later... in... FRANCE...what a surprise). I continue to look at paper types, as well as color/shades studies. And another possible 'tool' in soaking methods I need to try out.... I also look forward to cooler weather and rain so I have no reason to venture out and I can 'stamp all day'! Keep on stampin'

I've been going to the stamp market every Sunday, despite the showers that we had last day. I've found good modern used Scandinavian stamps. Yesterday, I received an internet purchase of about 60 used Iceland stamps, plus a few from Norway and Finland. Most, are already on the albums. Looking forward for next Sunday's findings and the Barcelona Autumn Stamp Fair, due for the 3rd and 4th of October... We'll see.

Spent some time today working on a mix of mostly used stamps from the Nordic countries. So far no Greenland or Aland Islands, but lots of Iceland, Finland, and Norway. I’m maybe a third of the way through the mix, and have a second similar group to dig into once this one is done.

This is the best thread - my first stop when trying to catch up on the latest forum news. I, too, am returning after a brief hiatus. We have been busy busy with all sorts of real life activities. When I have time, I’ve been going through a recent Auction purchase of Austrian military issues from the WWI era. I’m not an expert on worldwide military mail, but off the top of my head I think Austria issued more military issues than anyone else especially factoring in all of the overprints. To better understand usages, I started doing a bit of internet reading into the history of the decade and found that I need to find a more in depth book. Any suggestions? Happy stamping! Yikes - Austria military / occupations / territories issues collection needs work! Here’s a sample page … a mess!

Got in late from the Eastern Ontario Postcard Show yesterday ... and between that, stuff that came in the mail, the club sale this week and BNAPS a couple of weeks ago, I've got to deal with a mess on the desk today. But first, I have to finish and forward some writing I promissed. It's gonna be a stampy day. Have fun everyone!

I made it out to a club meeting on Friday and I'm very glad I did. Plenty of visiting, interesting displays (letter 'G' and Cinderella stamps) and an auction. I won a New Zealand year set from 1985 in the raffle and three auction lots. The most expensive lot was two packs of old Dennison hinges, the middle lot was a Sweden #10 which it turns out I already have, and the cheapest was a stockbook full of common Canadian stamps. Only $3 for the stockbook, which I bought because there were no other bidders and I figured it was worth a flyer. Well, I went through the book yesterday. I have a dozen new stamps for my Canada collection, a few nice postmarks for my 'what do I do with these' postmark collection and well over 125 upgrades to what was already in my album. Cleaner stamps, neater postmarks, etc. This has changed my entire mood about my Canada collection. When I last went through my album I was disappointed by the condition of lots of the stamps. I'm much, much happier with the state of things now. Plus I have a stockbook that is in fairly good shape, and many hundreds of duplicates that will be going into donation packets for distribution around town. I decided that, rather than replacing the stamps in my old album, I'm going to make up AlbumEasy pages for Canada. So the new stamps will be the first additions to the new album. They are nicely sorted and ready for mounting. So much fun for less than the cost of a can of soda and packet of potato chips.

soaking, drying, sorting, repeat...
today, I had some stamps from mail I'd received recently from purchases and included those in with the Austrian stamps which are the current 'to-do'. I pulled a GB stamp off of the paper an don the back of the stamp was a hinge! I doubt it's unusual, but it's the first time I can recall this happening (and I've soaked a whole lotta stamps!)
Keep on stamping!
