I plan on spending this weekend at home working on my stamps, away from the traffic and crowds. I’m going to integrate some recent purchases into my collection and continue sorting through my Canadian duplicates looking for one copy of each different stamp. Since I haven’t seen my Harris Canada album since we moved several years ago, I’ve decided to buy a new Canada album and start my collection all over. The duplicates that I have are all used and I’ll use those as placeholders until I can obtain mint copies. Luckily, I was only collecting used, low value stamps when I filled the Harris album so it’s not a huge loss.

Next Year? How could you not go though it right away? NEXT Year? Wow! Truth be told, I have already gone through the whole box, just to see what is there in a general sense, but to dive into it and start sorting is whole different story.

Methodically going through duplicate Australian 'roos and putting them up for sale on a sales site. This is an extension of my work on the old album I bought. I will work on the King George V stamps next.

Hey everyone, long time no see! So the great purge continues. Our house is sold and we have three weeks to pack up and move cross country. We’re moving from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment so are making some big decisions about what to take and what to move on. We also decided that all we’re taking has to fit in the back of a Dodge Grand Caravan that we’re renting for the trip. So the ol’ stamp collection is getting quite a haircut. When I packed it up, everything fit into 9 boxes (mainly banker boxes but a few plastic totes. That’s too much. So today I started culling. My boxes of miscellaneous covers and FDC’s will go to the club. My 2011 Scotts are staying here too. Same with my collection of old beginner albums. I’m for sure keeping my Canada and my Scandinavia and those specialized catalogues. As well as my Panini football stickers. The worldwide collection (5 grande albums plus two boxes of stock books) is on the bubble. In a way, it’s barely started, but that’s also been the bulk of my dabbling over 20 years. Most of the stock books represent several attempts to get things organized. There are even a page or two of several topical collections. I can’t see them making it into the van, but I can’t see anyone buying it all either. As with most general collections, the value is all in the stock books. Sigh. The good news out of all of this is that by paring down my collection I might be able to focus on filling lots of spaces in my Scandinavia and Canada collections. But I sure do love sorting through a large mixture. Ah well. We move on the 24th, so I don’t think I’ll be here much till we get resettled, but I hope all you Northerners enjoy getting back into the fall collecting rhythms. Mark

I haven't been stamping much these past few weeks, mostly because it's been too hot and my stamp room is in the upper floor where it gets uncomfortable (no air conditioning in the house) and I'm pretty tired by the end of the day, plus financial constraints have slowed the incoming flow, but this week-end I have received some prospective trades from Beryllium Guy that have aroused my interest. Once we settle the trade, I'll post some of the acquisitions!

Well after three weeks of frustration with a PC not talking to the internet...……………...Not a router problem apparently 'cos all other systems , TV, CCTV , iPhone, ipad and wife's Mac all work ……….we finally got a pair of plug in BT ( British Telecom) adaptors one at Phone line entry and one at my desk upstairs which apparently talk to each other and I am back on line and able to access my images to send. Ebay has been frustrating but just about works with ipad photos rather than stored scans but took more time than usual.
I don't understand it but soooo frustrating when technology doesn't work as expected. Gee, we are so dependent on gadgets these days!
Bring back the horse and buggy.

A few more covers have been added to my collection. This first one is from Zipper. (She gave to me earlier this summer, and I thought I shared it here, but I can't find a post with this cover.) Thank you Love! Lou Gehrig This next one was a bonus freebie in an order from comet66. He didn't know it at the time, but I collect interesting April 1st covers, and a free April 1st cover is indeed interesting! Thank you John!
April 1st
The third cover was an Anglophile give-away (SOR) to the first person to pm their mailing address. I won. This is a big cover, 14.5cm x 22.5cm (6"x9"). Thank you Chris! (This scan is his.) Lou Gehrig

I have been hard at it, working on album pages for various Canadian definitive series.
I finished the Artifacts, Trees, Architecture series yesterday & started on the Edible Berries, Fruit Trees, Architecture series today.
I went through the stamps packets from the shop I found a couple months ago, only to find even more errors. Not only wrong, spotted &/or straight edge stamps, but also missing stamps! I give up on them. You'd think quality control would not be as bad as this. Just too many errors. So I'm mailing them a letter of my complaints & dropping them from my list of stamp shops. That means it will probably take me longer to get what I am looking for. But part if the fun is the hunt, isn't it? I may not complete the series, but at least I will not have bought so many errors!
George S. Wegg (RIP) was never like this!

Another day too warm to be outside much... got as much yard work done as i could sweat out.... i could clean the aquarium, but I'll wait till later this afternoon - My effort to start mounting my Great Britain QV Jubilee issues has come to a temporary standstill I try to determine how many recognized color shades there are... My desk could use a good straightening..... (not very exciting)... or there's always soaking (only slightly more exciting than straightening the desk....) i'm currently overwhelmed by a lack of organization

I just get stuff out, leave it on the floor, or propped up on a table or chair leg around me and my desk looks like Rome after being conquered by the barbarian horde.

I started "organizing" only to realize that until i caught up on soaking all I was accomplishings was smaller piles (but a great deal more...) so I thnk I easily soaked 1000+ stamps today...I have never had such a stack of blotted/drting stamps, but I did get everything that was on stock pages/album pages ... so that somewhat unruly pile is gone and I can actually see wood grain in area that has been hidden for some time... now, the upcoming challenge is to sortt and either place into stock binders or envelopes and file accordingly
... I'd actually forgotten just how much was on pages....
who know's what i will accomplish tomorrow?

Ebay has been frustrating but just about works with ipad photos rather than stored scans but took more time than usual. Try using "https://jpegbay.com" to store your photos and upload them to Ebay. It is completely free, and you can put giant photos in your descriptions. I have used it for several years now and like it better than just using the standard Ebay photos. Just follow the instructions, it's easy to use. I hope this works for you. Mike.

madbaker - Congratulations on your move to new apartment. Must be tough to downsize because of it, but must be a relief at the same time. I finally got some proper Stamping done this weekend. Escaped to barbu 's cottage out in the wilderness and worked on India on custom pages. What a joy!!!

My Canon all in one printer scanner stopped working on Thursday just as I was getting ready to depart on a short trip. I can work with my stamps without the printer but the scanner function is a must. I have ordered an HP replacement so I can get back in the game.

i continued to organize today- loose stamps and in envelopes- placed into stock cards and into binders (need more D-ring binders! Are there any nicer looking ones out there, other than "offce" grade?). Multiple smaller stock cards consolidated. It was a bit surprising to see just how much I've accumulated in addition to what i already had! ... and i found some more stamps on pages or hinged in stockbooks... I really thoughtI'd checked that one off my list yesterday This is the largest space of desk I've seen in a awhile! i just hope I remember where I put everything... and I somewhat organized my every expanding shelves given over to stamps!

I finally spent some time with stamps. I mounted everything I had ready to mount then created a custom page for my US Mystic album. After that, went through a 4-inch stack of an old Harris Ambassador pages looking for countries I collect to move to my collection.
The Ambassador is my fall back if I run out of anything else to do. It is all double sided with glassine interleaving. Some glassine sheets had turned color (pink tinge) and stained some blank pages inserted to mount stamps without spaces. The stamps did not appear harmed given the condition of the album. I was eyeing new countries such as Germany.

this is several small lots of France stamps... bought mainly for the Sage... already puled out a couple of Type 1, but nothing I don't already have- still this should help the stidy for shasdes and "states" I knew there was a reason I cleaned my desktop!

At the moment I have about 250 little piles, each a country, up to about 10mm high spread out and a small stack of other countries I ran out of space to sort, spread out and there is barely room to move.
Dare I open the window for a breeze to let them get some fresh air because a few are noticably musty?

Cleaned my desktop before I left for job today. I'm going to start posting Norwegian stamps for sale at a Norwegian site. Need to describe the postmark origin, county and post office. Time consuming but fun.

my Pile-o-France is now smaller- pulled out all the Sage, about a 100+ (most Type 2...but some nice cancels, a few Type 1, but the only the common ones.... but I wasn't expecting great things from this, and did cull out 10 -15 that were just "toast") and put into stock pages -not individually... i'll wait till I move on to study these...so for now some smaller piles , mainly Sower - with and without ground, though I think I almost have all of the color shades of without, and a few misc.,
and so it goes....
but my eyes grow tired, so the evening stamping has come to an end
Cheers!

As a new member, I have been exploring the Forum's "library" and read the third installment of the TSF newsletter.
With jimjung ’s article on the five-cent beaver issue of Canada in hand, i had a look at the copies I own. Alas, no logs, rocks or leaping fish sighted...
