Faidhherbe,Palmiers and Ballayy set,issued in 1906 Yvert 1-17. I was missing the 5fr top value but finally managed to find one.It arrived yesterday from Texas via California and Florida.  |

This colony was created in 1904 and issued two series of stamps,the Faidherbe,Palmiers and Ballay stamps of 1906 and the 1914 series depicting a camel rider.In December 1920,the name of the colony was changed to French Sudan,and stamps from French Sudan were used from December 1921.Niger also became a separate colony and issued its own stamps in 1921. This is an assortment of postmarks on these early stamps.  |

Very nice stuff anglobob. I remember when I began collecting finding one or two of these large size French Colonies in every packet of “100 stamps for 6d “ Always just a common low value single , but so exotic compared to the dull British stamps of the George VI period ,when we had no commemoratives worth mentioning and our definitive s were dull . To see the whole series like this is a treat. |

The second and last definitive series-TARGUI,issued from 1914 to 1917...Yvert 18-34 Also,in 1915 a surcharged issue to raise funds for the Red Cross Yvert 35.  |

So great to to finish a series or set of stamps. I am sure you spent a great deal of time tracking them down over the years. A very interesting era to collect.

Another selection of early postmarks.This territory was only in existence from 1904 to 1920 before being split up . I enjoy finding stamps with different territory postmarks.  |
