I'm thinking of just having them use the stamps to mail it here!

And I know -- our international rates skyrocketed this last rate change. Items that used to be $2-$2.50 can go as high as $5-7 now.

Preferred format = mint full gum. Used on cover, give it 10 years and you may have a doozy, very rare. Caveat. It has to be addressed nicely, nice cover survive the trip intact The "Marker Monkey" has to be on tea break or holidays I don't like your chances...but is it worth the risk ? By the way, the vendor of the Perth sheet, (you won't believe it) is a Peanuts collector too! Goodness me! Says he hasn't the Japanese or the other one either. Lovely guy. met him today, he is Chinese (I assumed), Professor, and consultant radiologist. Stamps bring odd people together

And the non-contemporaneous cancel wouldn't help matters either. (That's the beauty of the markers!) Oh, well -- intact and inside the package it is, then.

The stamps on this adorable cover from a German swap partner, sent to my daughters, feature artwork by Janosch, a well-known children’s author and illustrator. Here are links to the Deutsche Post website with more information (in German): Easter and Sailboat

Over the past month or so I've been soaking and sorting (well, mostly sorting, not too much soaking at the moment) and as I come across them, I'll often set aside stamps that would fit into one of the threads already on the go here. Those piles of "gotta scan these" stamps are now verging on being out of control so it's time to pick away at them. Up first, a Finnish booklet pane from 1996 with first day cancel showing indigenous comic fauna. There's an eBay seller located in Canada who sells worldwide on-paper mixes mostly made up of first day cover cutouts, and I have accumulated a fair bit of stuff that I would probably never find through legitimate postal usage. Hooray for FDC cutouts! Ryan

France has issued a huge amount of cartoon stamps. Some are famous characters, some aren't so much. Garfield and Mickey Mouse are certainly near the top of the pile, Excitable Dog and 3D Cow perhaps less so. 3D Cow's attempt to mail herself echoes a member of the Cow Parade herd seen in Bordeaux in 2010 - Cow Parade fibreglass cows are decorated by artists and placed around town, and after the exhibit is over they are sold at auction with the proceeds going to charities. La Poste bought the Stamped Cow pictured here for €5,000 ( #26 on this census of Cow Parade cows). Ryan

How about a shapely flight attendant from Belgium? (Or, as she was known back in the day, a stewardess.) The floor is open for votes, I have one vote in favour of shapely stewardesses from Belgium. This 1993 stamp featuring Air Hostess Natacha was drawn by François Walthéry and promotes youth philately. Ryan

And another serving from the all-you-can-eat French comic stamp buffet ... note the address for La Vache, Pi 3.1416. The cartoonist must be a math geek. ha ha Ryan

Another pair of cartoon stamps from France. Slobber Wolf is from the classic cartoon " Red Hot Riding Hood", a typically wild Tex Avery work. Ryan

My comic number one is Mafalda and her friends, from the Argentinean "Quino". From South America, but 100% European.
Second and third (hard to say which is which) Tintin from Hergé (already shown) and Astèrix from Gosciny and Uderzo:

Mafalda's mini-sheet issued by Spanish PO. FDC of Barcelona, where European books of the cartoon are published.
Mafalda, is a typical Western world child of the 1960/70's, who loves the Beatles, hates the soup and fears "the bomb" and the Comunist China. Hippies, Vietnam war, cold war, UN, the begining of environment awareness... Everything appears on Mafalda's stripes. An intelligent adult comic. Nothing to do with super heroes!

Does anyone have a good source for album pages in this area? Maybe therealwesty ? Haven't decided how I want to group my collection in this area yet, but I figure pre-built album pages for comics, cartoons, superheroes and the like might inspire me.

An interesting First Day of Issue item produced by the United States Postal Service attached to a full reproduction of the June 1938 Action Comics No.1, the first appearance of Superman. The Superman stamp from the 1930s Celebrate the Century sheet from 1998 is postmarked for Cleveland, Ohio Sept 10 1998, the 60th anniversary year. Superman creators Jerry Siegel, the writer and Joe Shuster, the artist grew up in Cleveland and that is where they created Superman. Scan_20201025 by Daniel, on Flickr

"La familia Ulises" ("The Ulises Family") was a cartoon that appeared on Barcelona's comics magazine "TBO" between 1945 and 1998. It was a soft comic depiction of a typical Barcelona family of the 40's up to the 90's. Created by Marí Benejam, it was very popular, among people of all ages.

Two more cartoon characters printed in Barcelona on the 1955-95 years: Carpanta, symbol of the postwar (1939-1953) widespread famine. His main goal (never acomplished) was to eat a roasted chiken. And Capitan Trueno, an Iberian medieval Christian warrior, fighting moors and heathens (vikings).
