It says on the bottom right `RED ISDIAN LAKE`. It should be INDIAN.

Alanl- thanks for noticing that. :-) Alanl and other Newfie collectors- is the S rather than an N in "INDIAN" in the script a recognized error?

jkblue, my Scott clearly shows it as INDIAN and does not list a variety for 94. My Unitrade also does not list any varieties. Both are well past their prime though. I hope you have a winner!

Hmmmm. could it be a worn out "N" that looks like an "S"? I would actually feel better if an "S" had been reported, as I'm sure Newfie stamps have been examined carefully over the years. I guess I will have to investigate a little further.

I am inclined to think the 'S' is a worn out 'N'. If you look at the 'N' in Newfoundland the font used is heavily serifed, so with a bit of wear it gets distorted. Also if you compare the 'N' from Newfoundland with the 'S' from postage you will see the diagonal line from the 'N' is pretty straight, where the 'S' has a little more curve. The 'N' from Indian seems to have more of the straight characteristics like in Newfoundland.

Therealwesty-
I think you are right. An investigation into the N/S on the Scott 94's shows a number with an "S" configuration, although my example is on the extreme end.

I had forgotten how confusing some of these issues can be.I'm re-mounting the 1928 Nfld-Labrador issues.Having a few used copies I have to discern first or re-engraved as well as looking for re-entries.When I was looking to fill the spaces I bought mint stamps but over the years used copies have come along and now I face the duty I neglected then.To top it off Nfld used different perfs on numerous issues so some perf measuring involved where ever you turn.Great stamps none the less and the sets are all long sets usually 12-14 stamps. Not a lot of common definitive types.

Here is the John Guy stamp in a block positioned with three stamps having three different error varieties: Note that there's a noticeable variety in the 4th stamp as well, there's a blotch of white between the "P" of "Postage" and the "O" of "One". My favourite Newfoundland stamp is one I don't own so I've nabbed an image from one of RegencySuperior's auction lots - OX1, the KEVII dead letter office stamp. Ryan

Thanks Ryan, Rod ! I've seen this block a couple of times before aside from my copy, still scarce but a good one to search for and definitely undiscovered copies out there for cheap.

Well the same old story in Frog world. This page left no room for expansion and now additional mint/used copies in hand all must be re-done.(including proper heading on page).

Imprint Copies. The 2nd one has an odd mark in the left hand margin.

... The 2nd one has an odd mark in the left hand margin... Are you referring to the marking on the center left perf tooth adjacent to the "W" in "TWO"?

If you mean the mark in the perf?? Rarely is the perf cod stamp not cut into on 1 or more sides The right tip is much larger, filled in and darker than the left one, so that mark is probably the right tip of the adjoining stamp It is also fractionally higher than the left one - part of the oval is visible in the perf above it. It is probably lacking more detail due to the paper tear. Your pic.

falschung, I get it. The perf tips do cut into the design at the right so it makes sense that the perf tip at the left could show that small piece of the design of the adjoining stamp to the left. The stamps are printed pretty close together ... Mystery (to me anyways) solved!

Here is my first, but definitely not my last, Newfoundland stamp. (Thanks Bobby!) I actually had no idea where in the world Newfoundland was (Please don't hate me Canadians!), and a not-so-small amount of my day went into researching the province and its postage.
