I received these two about a week apart in December 2010. Both had been processed through the same post office (as I recall it was somewhere in North Carolina) and it seems that both were processed by the same individual. While I find most marker monkey works distasteful, these two pieces had a somewhat artistic flair to them.   |

Good grief! They had been cancelled, so that is just wanton vandalism. Let's hope the felt pen leaks in his breast pocket.

Given that the stamps are Self-Adhesive, can the used [marker-monkeyed] Flags be called a PNC ?? Surely the Freedom stamp is merely a Plate Number single ? |

I recently received a registered letter that contained a few thousand dollars worth of classic US material. Now, the thing that gets me is that the sender used the round forever globe stamps that I don't have but apparently just before it was delivered the stamps was scribbled on...all of them! I know it was the mail lady because she the pen and was writing with it when she was handing me the envelope and asked me to sign for it...ARGH!! I'll scan and post it for the thread. |

OK, this certainly isn't the worst one I have ever received but the worst one in a while. WHY on earth did she do that? She knows I'm a stamp collector too? In fact she's fascinated by it- they both are and me questions all the time? Oh well I guess I can't really stay mad; after-all they're just doing their job I guess?...  |

I received a package from Denmark today and was very disappointed to find there is a marker monkey among the Danes as well. Usually Denmark is a very reliable source of good quality cancels - Switzerland is tops in my book for reliable cancellations, but Denmark is close behind. Green felt pen on a 30 Krone stamp and two commemoratives over letter rate - sigh ...  Ryan |

At least I was happy with the package innards. I buy piles of stamps for an eventual stamp trading website ("eventual" as in "hopefully up and running in less than 5 years"). It's tough to find trading stock for a place like Greenland, but I came across an eBay listing for good groups of Greenland and Iceland for a surprisingly low price, so I snapped them up. I haven't looked through the Iceland group yet, but on a quick check I found over 150 stamps that catalogue more than $2 a piece among the Greenland stamps - 22 copies of a $9 stamp! Yay for that, now all they need to do is put the marker monkey behind bars.  Ryan |

So how do you keep them now, manila stock sheets? They're kept in the "piles of stuff" department. Ready to be catalogued because they're already off paper and clean (I don't like hinge remnants, leftover gum, wrinkly stamps, etc) go into successive sizes of baking tins for the more common countries, glassines for the less common.  Stamps with gum go into 102 cards and then into red boxes. Too many of those, over 50 boxes full already. Then there's the pile of boxes of off-paper stamps awaiting sorting into those that are ready for cataloguing and those that need soaking. Here's about half of them. You can see what state my guest room is in. No room for guests, the stamps take priority!  Then a massive pile of on-paper, hiding in the closet. And the binders and stockbooks awaiting the first level of sorting. And the ones awaiting their turn in the bath for their soaking. And I still buy stuff! ha ha - I have more I can finish before I die, unless I radically ramp up my production. Oh well, I'll have lots of fun until then. Ryan |

No scanner here, a photo will do. As with Zuzu's first post, a PNC (4c Chippendale chair) lost to the marker monkey. One of the 3c coils had escaped a cancellation, so they all received a hefty scribble. Grrr.  Ryan |

I received a monkey marker from Great Britain for a trade. And the sticker that was on the envelope stated stamps for collection as the contents!!!
Unbelievable....
I took my trade to the post office, they were very patient and even put a corner edge post mark.

This isn't Marker Monkeys. More like Border Patrol Tape Trolls. Surprisingly, the tape peeled off without damaging the stamps. However, once I got it off I realized that the cover was probably more interesting with the tape than without it.
