UPPER VOLTA Formerly part of Upper Senegal and Niger, Upper Volta was created as a separate colony in 1919. In 1932 it was divided among French Sudan, Ivory Coast and Niger but was reconstituted as a separate territory in 1947 from when it used the stamps of French WestAfrica. In 1958 it became an autonomous republic within the French Community and attained full independence in 1960.As of 1984 the name of the state was changed to BurkinaFaso. 1920 S.G # 18-26 1922 S.G # 27-28-29 # 32-33-34 Unfortunately my Scott world only covers Upper Senegal and Niger early issues from 1906-1914. Stampworld.com catalogue lists these as issues of 1922 and 1925 and it Seems that S.Gibbons combined all the stamps of 1920/1922 optd. "Haute Volta" under 1920, and all the surcharged stamps of 1922/1925 combined under 1922 . I would appreciate it if anyone can help ID# by Scott or Yvert.T, so i can properly label them . S.G 18-21 S.G 22-23 S.G 24-26 S.G 27-28-29 S.G 32-34

UPPER VOLTA Unfortunately, my Scott world only covers Upper Senegal and Niger early issues from 1906-1914. Stampworld.com catalogue lists these as issues of 1922 and 1925, and it seems that Gibbons combined all the stamps of 1920/1922 overprinted. "Haute Volta" under 1920, and all the surcharged stamps of 1922/1925 combined under 1922. I would appreciate it if anyone can help ID# by Scott or Yvert & Tellier, so I can properly label them.SG 18-21 SG 22-23 SG 24-26 SG 27-28-29 SG 32-34 OK, Jad, here is a "snip" of the listing from the 2013 Scott Catalogue under Burkina Faso, which shows the entire set for the stamps overprinted HAUTE-VOLTA followed by the surcharges on that same set. I apologize for the poor quality of the images. The process of using a "Print Screen" function and then cropping the image seems to have distorted things somewhat, but it is still readable. Back in my old home, I would have scanned the pages from the catalogue myself, which would have resulted in a better quality image, but this is the best I can do at the moment.

Actually, Jad ( Bombadil ), this is something easy to overlook. If you use the Scott Classic Specialized Catalogue, as I normally would do, the country is still listed as Upper Volta, because during the classic period, that was the only name under which it was known. On the other hand, if you use the standard Scott Catalogues, which include post-1940 material from all countries, the listing was updated to Burkina Faso for all the stamps listed from Upper Volta and Burkina Faso. For some reason, this time I decided to use the standard Scott from 2013, and that's why I found the listing where I did! -Chris

Chris ( Beryllium Guy): Thank you for taking the time to clarify that for me, I also use The standard Scott Catalogues 2013. I am planning to invest in two MAURY Catalogues "French Colonies in Europe & Asia" and "French Empire in Africa" for better detailed references, since I am becoming more and more attracted to French colonies stamps.
