I realised I have made earlier two separate threads on used Indian stamps. I guess I will use this one thread to post my used sets of contemporary Indian stamps. As I mentioned in my earlier thread, I seem to like used stamps more than mint or unused ones. It's a satisfying feeling to collect used stamps that have served their original purpose, that of helping people communicate. I recently managed to complete my used stamps set of Ramayana series. A set of 11 stamps were issued in 2017 and I was lucky enough to find these. India post has lately been issuing large number of issues even as the usage of commemorative stamps has been steadily declining. With only about 400-600K stamps being issued of each commemorative stamp, it's hard to get a decent "fine-used" copy. Superfine used is almost a dream of modern Indian stamps. http://instagram.com/p/BkFNr5hAYoe

I certainly agree with you. Postmarks makes the stamps much more interesting, and classical Indian stamps is a prime example. For instance Indian stamps postmarked in Zanzibar, Bahrain, Singapore, Penang, Nepal, Tibet, current day Bangladesh or Pakistan and lots of other places outwith current day India. I am very fascinated by such forerunners and actively look for them. Beyond forerunner-postmarks, any postmark add to a stamp in my opinion. Mint stamps are great to look at, but their nothing more than that; stamps. Used stamps have a story to tell as well!! Jon

Just wanted to voice my agreement about the status of postally-used stamps. To me, the cancel is the life or soul of the stamp.

I have to admit that I collect Mint over Used. BUT... a used stamp with a great cancel beats any mint, any day!

Here are 7 of my favorite Indian stamps - faraway cancels, including Muscat, Aden, Aden Camp, Aden Cantonment, and Bushire. These are great, Doug, thanks for sharing them! I started a thread last year for stamps of India postmarked in Aden: thestampforum.boards.net/post/51483/threadAny chance I could prevail upon you to re-post the ones postmarked in Aden in that thread? The thread never got any replies at the time, and I would be very glad to see it revived with a contribution now. Besides that, your postmarks are even clearer than the two that I posted, so it would be a real upgrade to the thread I think. Unfortunately, Clive Smyth ( Anping), who was the TSF resident Aden specialist, and whom I had hoped would reply, had fallen into ill health, and he never did post any more images of his India stamps postmarked in Aden. Clive passed away not long ago, so perhaps I could persuade you to do it in his honor? I know that it would have meant a lot to him, and I can tell you, it would mean a lot to me as a result. Please consider it.... thanks!

doug630 - those forerunners are simply fantastic!!! Congratulations. Did you find them amidst 'normal' Indian stuff, or purchase them seperately? Really nice anyway - ENVY

OK, Steve, my mistake - this software takes some getting used to.
For blaamand, over the years I bought world albums, took what I wanted, and mounted 3 new stamps for every one I kept, then resold them. The Indian cancels came from these collections, apparently no one paid any attention to cancellations, repeatedly. Still, there's only one cancel for each 5 years. I think the best by far is the Bushire.

Here are 7 of my favorite Indian stamps - faraway cancels, including Muscat, Aden, Aden Camp, Aden Cantonment, and Bushire. It's fascinating in how many countries British India stamps have been used. I heard someone say that they've been used even in Venezuela, which I found hard to believe. For one, I don't think the British ever reached Venezuela. My next challenge is "India Used Abroad" collection. I'll probably start small with basic overprints. Getting to cancels is a totally different level. There's a good reason why I call myself Amateur Philatelist

Ready to try again to post your great Aden postmarked India issues here: thestampforum.boards.net/thread/5071/aden-stamps-india-used-colonyI hope you will add these beautifully postmarked stamps to the thread to help revive it....
