Hello collectors, I have run into a small problem. I have two one rupee official stamps, that I believe are the 1958-71 issues. The colors are quit different, the one on the left is the normal stamp, the right is the one in question.
Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

StampGuyUSA (Jim) Thanks for your post, Jim. I always enjoy a small research project! Have you checked the perforations on these two examples? I looked in Scott, and there are two different stamps which would seem to match the images and colors: India, Scott #O123 2-rupee brown red, perf 14 x 13-1/2 India, Scott #O148 2-rupee rose red, perf 14 If the perfs match, then we may have your answer. Hope this helps.

Thank you Beryllium Guy!
That is the answer I was looking for. I am afraid my eye sight is poor, and it is difficult to read Scott's catalog. My eye sight is compounded by two medications that cause blurring. This one of many reasons this website is so helpful to me.
Cheers!
Jim

Actually Scott is dead wrong on the perforations and colors, LOL.
There are 3 stamps for this value, all with same perforation, but with distinct shade and watermark
1) 1950 Rose, perf 14, Wmk Stars- this equals Scott O123
2) 1960 Carmine, perf 14, Wmk5 Asoka lions upright - Scott O148
3) 1969 Brown red - perf 14, Wmk5 Asoka lions rotated left - Scott O148a
Looking at colors alone, I would say your leftside stamp is 0148 and rightside is O123... But it really comes down to checking the watermark, as colors on screen aren't accurate and they can vary for other reasons as well.

...And 1976-78 Rose Red stamp, perf 15x14 and perf 14, Wmk Ashoka lion sideward to left. But this one is easier to identify as it denomination is listed as 200 instead of 2 Rs. In later years 200 stamp was printed in smaller version (multiple varieties of that too).

That is what I determined were the correct numbers, O148 and O123. Thanks for you reply, and your right about Scott, it is sorely lacking in so many areas.
Cheers, Jim
