This set of 5 cards was issued for the 30th Anniversary of the Government in 1978. Each card has a verse or verses to the song 나의 조국 (My Country) on the front along with the denomination image (in some cases similar to an issued postage stamp), boxes for the postal code and on the reverse an image of something important to the development of Korea...industry, government, farming, technology and medicine. The current value from the KPC Catalog is W2500 per card in unused condition or $2.20 per card...so not very valuable but interesting just the same. New Village Farming Mechanization (새마을 영농 기계화)

I recently purchased this item on eBay. It was misidentified as "JAPAN BIRD FINE USED POSTAL CARD 4.00 ILLEGIBLE CANCEL" but is actually a Korean postal card issued in 1966, KPS PC34, Magpie. The catalogue value used is W1500 which is about US $1.15. The cancel is indeed mostly illegible but I can see, however, faintly, the word 충남 (Chungnam) which is an abbreviation of the provincial name Chungcheongnamdo. I could not determine the town/post office name even after looking at google maps and the towns around the area where he lived. The card was sent from the following address: 충남 금산군 추부면 마전리 420번지 (420 Majeon-ri, Chubu-myeon, Geumsan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do) To the following address: 조선일보사 문화부 퀴-즈 계 (Chosun Ilbo, Culture Department Quiz Section) 서울 특별시 중구 태평로 1가 61 (61 Taepyeong-ro 1-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul) So, Mr. Kim apparently was sending in his answers to a daily or weekly quiz in the Chosun Ilbo newspaper. You can see his answers on the back of the card which are meaningless to me without actually seeing the quiz he was trying to answer. He uses the word 졸 which I think is actually a mis-spelling of the word 줄 which means line, so he is indicating in his list of 5 answers, various lines from the quiz. At some point I may try to go to the Chosun Ilbo's website to see if they have any sort of online archive but that is a time consuming task for another day.
