The Jack Knight Air Mail Society prepared this label for a 1954 Armed Forces Air Show held at Mitchell Air Force Base. All U.S. armed services participated. The cover is appropriately franked with Scott C 47, the 1953 air mail stamp commemorating the 50th anniversary of powered flight. The label depicts a number of historic aircraft in flight and is tied by a run-on of the killer bars from a Hempstead, N.Y. receiving cancel on the reverse. Mitchell Air Force Base was closed in 1961.
The cover is also an association cover in that it is addressed to, and autographed by Clarence. A. de Giers who was one of the original Early Birds, a group of aviators who soloed an airplane prior to December 17, 1916.

Thanks to Steve ( tomiseksj ) I have a cinderella on cover! Two, there is a Flag cinderella on the back too. And inside the envelope... a bunch more TSF Cinderellas! Snazzy! I should buy more so that I can use them! Always happy to support the forum, glad I received something back like this! Thanks again, Steve! (Here, stamps received, whatcha stamping? Which thread to post in. I picked one and went with it.)

This recent acquisition looks like it has seen double use. It appears to have been first mailed May 13, 1939, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, using a postage meter with a slogan urging the saving of the whaleship Charles W. Morgan. That is probably when the labels in the upper left and lower right and on the reverse were applied. Then it appears that the envelope was reused and posted again from New Bedford to Elmer's Stamp Shop in Boston when the 3 cents Prexie was applied and canceled on Dec 12, 1939. All-in-all, an interesting, if puzzling cover headed for my Cinderellas on Cover collection.
The campaign to save the ship was successful and it is now at the Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic, CT.

Here is another Disney produced combat insignia cinderella on cover that I found in my shoe box collection. This one is for VS-6 or Scouting Squadron 6 that was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise during WW II. I bought the cover for my Aircraft on Covers collection because of the small images in the label's background of what look like Grummand FF-1s in flight. A previous post thestampforum.boards.net/post/95541/thread contains more information on the Disney seals. It appears that the cachet on this cover was designed especially for the Disney insignia labels. Don StampHinger

This non-philatelic cover with an "Aid to the Blind" seal came out of a dealer's bargain box. It probably carried a Christmas card to the addressees. Not an especially attractive item, but tied to the cover as it is, it's worthy of adding to my Cinderellas on Cover album.

Don StampHinger Is there any significance to the upside down postal stamp? Funny how it is upside down & the cinderella is right-side up!

Had the cover been sent in the teens, 1920s or 1930s, possibly yes, but given it was posted in 1972, I would doubt it. Probably just carelessness or lack of concern about what it looked like. Non-collectors have so little awareness of stamps today, 99% are not aware there is/was once an elaborate message system linked to placement of a stamp on cover.
Here's a link to one code set. There probably are others. My guess is someone collects covers using these codes. Anyone on this forum?

Anyone with handwriting that awful must be trying very hard. And the post got it to the addressee.

Well, here is another item out of a dealer's bargain box, equally plain, featuring a 1947 block of four Christmas seals tied to cover with a bullseye machine cancel. The cancel machine was under inked, but additional light and magnification shows this cover was canceled at Baltimore, MD, December 22, 1947. Surely, another Christmas card cover based on its size and shape. Rather unChristmasy postage stamp. Maybe the sender was a collector.

A philatelic event cover from the 17th annual convention of the Northwest Federation of Stamp Clubs held in Bellingham, Washington, May 31-June 2, 1957. A souvenir label from the convention is tied to cover.

There are three Swedish-related collecting points on this American Airlines air mail cover. First, is the use of Swedish Pioneer commemorative stamps for franking, Sc. 958, with corresponding commemorative slogan cancel. Second, is the American and Scandinavian airlines commemorative cachet incorporating the same covered wagon motif as the stamp. And, third, and most appropriate for this thread, is an American Airlines Swedish Pioneer Centennial label affixed near the center of the envelope. The cover came with a American Airlines route map as an insert.
As a philatelic item, which it is, the cover is messy with its stamps and addressing carelessly applied. Its redeeming feature for me, however, is the AA commemorative label that qualifies the cover for my Cinderellas on Cover album.

Here is the latest example of a nice hand-cancelled pair of my homemade COGH Cinderella labels. This one took some doing, as the postal clerk was reluctant to do it. In fact, she told me that she had never been asked to hand-cancel anything and that she didn't even know what I was asking for! But in the end, I was able to explain what I wanted, and she obliged me. She also did a very nice job once she decided to do it, first testing the device on a blank sheet of paper to ensure that the date setting was correct and that it was properly inked. This latest example is on an envelope headed to Stan ( stainlessb) in California. COGH Decorative Labels based on color-trial images, postmarked in Oxford, England on 11-Sep-2020

I saw this cover on eBay and when I saw the cinderella franking, I had to have it. Among my cinderella collection are some patriotic U.S. Marine Corps labels produced during the early 1940s, both off and on cover. Note on the post card below, the Marines label third item on top right and compare it to the Marines label next to it. These might be characterized as "pro and con" USMC. I can't help wondering if the sender of the card was either in the Marine Corps or recently released from active duty. In either case, he produced a highly collectable cinderella-on-cover for me. I also wonder if there are other "No Marines" labels based upon the 1940s set. Something to watch for.
The card is Polish in subject and also carries a Polish workers Solidarity label. The Solidarity labor union movement began in Gdansk, Poland in the fall of 1980. This is also a new item to me.
Unfortunately, the postmark is not clear and the date and place of mailing cannot be read. I think, however, it was mailed in the early 1980s when the post card rate was 13 cents and the Solidarity Movement was at its peak.

Arthur Herbert or Hubert, the person who prepared this post card, must have collected the Christmas charity labels sold by the Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Newark, NJ. This is the second cover I have that has these labels affixed and signed by him. Both items were canceled at a Stampex Exhibition. While not easily read, this card is canceled at the Convention Station of the Stampex Exhibition, on October 15, 1948. The four labels date consecutively 1945 - 1948. The exhibition was sponsored by the Essex Stamp Club and held at the Suburban Hotel, East Orange, NJ. October 15-17, 1948. I believe I have the souvenir label from that exhibition somewhere, but haven't been able to turn it up. There is a sepia photo of the Lutheran Memorial Hospital on the reverse of the card. The Lutheran Memorial Hospital was renamed Clara Maass Hospital in 1952 and subsequently became the Clara Maass Medical Center.

jamesw........I tried a number of times to re-connect with marius but to no avail. I visited him in the UK and he seemed settled and keen but then disappeared, even at his address. Nice guy, I liked him and his family were lovely. I hope one day he will come back. In the meantime here are a couple of covers from my 'Grumpy Old Man' days. A Jack Knight Air Mail Society advance label for the 4th annual AIRPEX to be held in Cicero, IL, April 21-22, 1945 tied to a piece of postal stationery. There were six of these labels issued for the event, three "plain" in three colors, brown & blue on blue, brown & blue on white, and brown & blue on yellow, plus the same three labels overprinted in the center Polonus, Roosevelt, and Central Federation Clubs. I have only this label with the Polonus overprint.
Polonus is the shortened name of the Polonus Polish Philatelic Society in Chicago. As this cover was addressed to the Cincinnati Enquirer, a newspaper, it probably contained a new release for the Enquirer's stamp column announcing the upcoming event.

Nice one Joan ( cursus) !! They actually cancelled the stamps too which is rare. The design of the Cinderella dates back to the 1950's and symbolized the relations with our Arab neighbours on the West Bank, 1km away. The Logo was used on envelopes, letterheads and many other uses. It was designed by the Father of a good Stamp Collecting buddy who passed away while were at a wedding in 2004. Here is the original proof design which was adopted by the (then) Kibbutz.

1948 cinderella, remembering the 100 years of the death of Jaume Balmes (Vic, Catalonia, 1810-1848) philosopher and churchman, on a contemporary cover circulated from Vic ("Vich" on the, then compulsory, Spanish language) to Barcelona.
