stainlessb I use strips not individual mounts. 1 pkg of Scott/Prinz 922 (25 x 215 mm). $6.00 Package has 22 strips. Each strip yields 8 25mm wide mounts so 176 mounts per package. This is 3.5 cents each. Now what I actually do now is buy 59 size mounts and split in middle. This reduces cost even more,

The one dilemma I see with some modern issues is strips of more than 5. This is even a situation with pre-printed and Steiner pages.
To keep the strip intact, you have to orient at an angle or sideways. Even with this, I have seen you get a strip in horizontal orientation but space in album in vertical! I experienced this with Canada.
My current preference is to separate stamps so they can presented visually better If the design on a stamp does not depend on the adjacent stamp. This strip concept also impacts those that collect used stamps.

I bought a bunch of Hutt River Province Principality (HRPP) back issues a while back. Most were se-tenant strips which are far too wide for a portrait display. Most include top or bottom selvedge & sides as well. I have yet to mount them, but will eventually separate them to individual stamps so that they'll fit. I'll probably strip off the selvedge as well.

I am slowly getting the American pages printed out & stamps mounted. I'm up to 1955 now. Thanks to coastwatcher for the 1955 set! I like the way it's turning out, with the red, white & blue theme. Although I would prefer a coloured paper, I wasn't too keen on red or blue paper, especially since white is not an ink colour.

Couple of comments brightonpete, not to be taken a criticism please: you state above “white is not a print colour” however I use it when I need to amend text on a page which I have stored and previously printed and want to add a word or extra description for a new stamp to fit in. I instruct my printer to print everything in white except the new addition! There was a fancy fancy a few decades back when we wrote up out text by hand to mount stamps on BLACK pages .the write up was done in WHITE ink.......pre computers and self publishing. I believe I indulged for a time with my classic GB and may even still have a page or somewhere. The other post you made refers to breaking up strips which do not fit pages, strips are better kept whole. Have you considered mounting diagonally? “ /“Also if the selvedge is just blank paper there is probably little merit in keeping it and I would be inclined to remove it, or even fold it under. As I collect topically with covers letters and ephemera in my Counterblaste to Tobacco and my Mail in Wartime , I frequently have larger items . I do exhibit and show to other societies so I have my collections on A3 sheets and no longer have that problem.

Diagonal mounting would be my least preferred option.

Diagonal? Oh no! Not for me. I'll put things in "landscape" but not diagonal. The selvedge has stuff on it, but... it's time to be broken up and torn off. There is just too much of it!
Back in the 70's & 80's, I used to mount everything on black pages with the quadrille pre-printed on it. I was a bit fancier than you in that I used a silver pen! Looked really nice, but my hand printing wasn't the best!
I had a bit of a problem mounting pre-cancel warning strips of 20. I bought some Vario sheets that might work, but I didn't like that. So I just mounted them on pages, up[right, under sheet protectors. So far they are good.

so i wonder if 1.5.4 is thought to be "more" stable? Biggest issue I have is main window migrates to the right and I have to go into the code and change the x' value back to 100 (or some such low #

I have used 1.5.4 a lot and did not experience any real issues for what I was doing. Some functions in Scribus are clunky to use or add as a feature (spell check).

I had a successful trip to the Chris Green Stamps store in Ottawa this week & purchased a whack of Canadian stamps. Too bad I didn't update my want list! All but 3 or 4 stamps that I purchased from the 50's though early 80's were already in the album! So a stack of traders is what I have! The definitives & 1984 onwards were perfect. I just finished mounting what I needed. I've changed the Christmas part of the collection pages a bit and am satisfied with this design. Red & green ink on yellow paper. I quite like it. I should have added some Christmas art like I did in the earlier years, but this is simple and pleasing to my eyes.

The page looks good brightonpete! Depending on the paper and ink colours in the rest of the binder, this page would stand out like a Christmas special. As well, I too like the layout; it is a pleasing arrangement of the issues with just enough supporting text and whether intentional or not, the overall presentation reminds one of a Christmas tree (angels always on the top)...well done!!

I'm loving this thread; some of the pages here are remarkable. I admire those of you who put copious notes on the page, including catalogue number and colours, etc. I am using Vario pages a lot now, but thought I'd share a few of my Norway pages. The definitive sets are written up in pencil, but I sorted the commemoratives roughly by date of issue. I don't mind hinging used stamps and I don't worry about boxes around each stamp, so I can hide my short sets. Although one set is not symmetrical so it shows a blank space, the rest look nice to my eye. I use my catalogue for inventory rather than my album, so I try to avoid blank spaces as much as possible. And the downside is, of course, I need to move some stamps around when I fill in some sets. But the rest of the time, they look nice to me. Anyway - here's a nod to simplicity, just to show the alternative. Mark PS - one thing that stands out to me from all the pictures you've shared is I sure like how the country name is less prominent on some of your pages. I might try that in the future. I nix part of the border if the stamps impede, like so...
Oh well, I can't remember where parts of borders were blanked out. If I can find it...
I have mounted my pre-cancel warning strips of 20 (!) & did away with the borders entirely.

More on my Machin pages journey. 1. Create a list of possible varieties 2. Start on a structure for layout, I try to create a style to follow (fonts, information location, etc) for consistency. Many aspects are experiments to assess look. I like information on page. I want to try a left side page view with supplemental information. 3. Arrange on Vario pages to match layout 4. Repeat 2 and 3 as I work through aspects. I want to avoid as few as possible exceptions later.

EDITED with updated scans- France Merson "Liberty and Peace" series first printing 1900, last printing 1929 I had to make some decisions as to which varieties to include- I omitted "misplaced center color" as it seems this becomes a very subjective as it doesn't take much for the minor color placement to be slightly off- Like wise "center color absent" as these look very uncommon. GC white paper.... I've looked at the fronts, backs, after cleaning and any of the stamps on "whitish" paper all look the same to me... so maybe they are in fact all the same and I have no examples of non-GC and GC white, so rather than make a guess, i will just omit unless i come across some definitive method of identifying. i did include the 23-29 overprints, even though I think a complete set may be out of my reach.... but it is something lust after! The stamp images are B&W... not sure why the scanner makes them appear somewhat sepia (printed on a black only printer) paper from same ream Thanks

Stan stainlessb - These look very nice - I wish you had put MAURY numbers (I think they are the same as Y&T)) and maybe Scott (but they do not list all varieties)......but tomorrow I will compare your pages to mine and give you a better feedback as it is 7 p.m. here and I have not had any dinner yet and had a big day of stamping and preparing FRANCE stamps for a California friend Color is not important....it is the number/description. Beautiful work for that period of MERSON stamps. Do you have the M206 3fr vio/blue ? I have a spare. Will be back tomorrow .....and that overpriced 1923 Merson 1fr overprint (that I do not own and will never buy at the price it is selling now)....just wonder if it is part of the true Merson series....if you look later the Yvert 182 (Sc 197) has a companion....1929 overprint on a 2fr (Sc 246).also $$$$...did not check Maury number. first revision= added 1929 overprint Philatelic Exposition Le Havre 1929 renden yes, numbers are the same as Maury (actually I am following Maury because Yvert skips the color varieties in the specialized, whereas Maury does not, but it does seem to follow ... i almost listed Maury #, but not everyone seems to recognize Maury as being distinct from Y & T or visa versa... I'm still may wait on starting to mount anys... waiting for my Marianne catalogue to arrive... ... just in case as to 3 Fr violet & blue i have these- not sure if they are exactly the same or if one is the lighter blue variety... not sure that is enough to be signifcant

You have the vio/blue 3 fr - no need to send you a spare - I would not put the overprints in this issue (Sc 109-132) stainlessb - your 2 Merson 3 fr stamps are the same with a difference in the blue centre (not much)....oxydation ?? I am printing your pages to be easier to check tomorrow/p 3 was changed to reflect both overprints which I would put on P 5 separate as they are not part of the series (original) and are overprints but you can do what pleases you, I respect - René

I understand what you are saying about the overprints.... but the earlier overprint is within the timeframe of the original series... i'll ponder this a bit (I don't have either one and may never... so placing on a separate page may make for an easy executive decision as to direction to take ...and both stamps need a bath!

Very well made and detailed Merson pages stainlessb - congratulations! madbaker wrote on Nov 17th: "thought I'd share a few of my Norway pages. (......) Anyway - here's a nod to simplicity, just to show the alternative." madbaker - I know it's late, but I didn't see your Norway pages properly until now. I really like those pages of yours! I think they look smashing without the boxes, it allows the stamps to stand out more as they really are, naked and honest. Your option to not have a frame also contributes to simplicity. Actually both of these choices were my own preference when I started making my own pages. However I started my own page-making project in cooperation with my brother barbu . He wasn't overly keen at first for making pages in the first place, and if participating he insisted on having the boxes and a frame... So there was no way around it, because I wouldn't been able to start such a project without the two of us working in parallell. (Well, now we are actually 3 on the project, tobben63 has joined the force!) Anyway, I still think pages without boxes and frames are wonderful, and when I see the simplicity of your pages I just wanted to say Wow - they are looking great!

LOVE the no outline pages! I’ve been thinking about starting to make some pages, but I like to add copies with selvage and margin markings. Leaving out the outlines would solve many of the problems using stamps that vary. And I often change copies, removing a plain copy for a corner for example. Doing that with outlines would ruin the look.
By the time I’ve read about and seen all of your awesome created album pages all of my layout problems will be solved for me. Sweet!

Very well made and detailed Merson pages stainlessb - congratulations! Congrats Stan stainlessb !! The edited pages are great - as mentioned I did some proof reading of your pages today and the final result (see edited pages posted above - of 5 pages in all) is super and I have to mention the indirect participation of Jon blaamand in these FRANCE Merson stamps/pages - he sent me a lot of stamps and helped +++ and got me to buy the MAURY catalog 2017. This shows how friend stampers can help each other in a Forum atmosphere !! René

I thought I would repost the corrected page 9and I deleted the previous one) Great Britain Queen Victoria Jubilee series 1/2d to 4-1/2d page 1 (this will likely be 3 pages and I want to include the color "changelings" of the later (blue green 1/2 d) Using SG for numbering and bouncing betweenSG QV Specialized and SG GB Concise- if anyone sees glaring errors or suggestions (missed one?) please let me know Happy Thanksgiving and now to start mounting some Merson!
