Londonbus.... Ecuador has 6 cases so far,all from one family who returned from Spain. I purchased my tickets to London a while ago,and also booked other trips while I am in London.Like Rene,I think the show will probably be cancelled. My big fear is if I travel, things get worse and will not be able to leave.Even if the show is nt cancelled,I feel that many people will be reluctant to go. Bob, I agree that if things get worse then there will be announcement by the London 2020 committee. I am still hopeful but only just. Losing the flight money is not really that important I guess......but still a bit painful. The Hotel can be cancelled without any loss right up to the last day.

antiviral drugs used for treatment of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 infectionWe all remember the 2009 Influenza Pandemic - I had bought 3 doses of the anti-viral drug, just in case and they were expensive. The porblem with COVID-19 is that there is (not yet) no antiviral Rx......let's hope they will find one but if so will never be able to have the quantity needed !! Interesting article in the Lancet www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(20)30132-8/fulltext

I have been off and on planning to spend some time in England or Ireland (done London several times and Scotland) but never could plan something, I wonder if I should get more serious but never considered London 2020 a goal.

Sadly I've just had to cancel a work trip to Seattle because of fears of COVID-19 in that area.
Travel inside the UK seems to be OK at the moment, but I also worry that we'll hear something about a cancellation if things continue the way they're going...

Londnbus....as you say, good news. However,I feel that they might have to cancel if things get worse and the Govt decides to curtail meetings of large numbers of people.I see where Crufts show has gone ahead as usual.I would be interested to know how many people attended. Fingers crossed as.

To Londonbus1 and cjoprey and anglobob : Thanks for your recent posts on this thread. I just wanted to let all of you know that I am still fully on board with attending the London 2020 Exhibition. Like Chris ( cjoprey), I have also had a business trip cancelled (mine was to Spain, for next week), but I am not letting that discourage me. All I can do is think as positively as I can, and continue to move forward assuming that the event will happen, at least until such time as someone tells me that it is not. And if a cancellation does happen, well, I am willing to consider alternatives. If others have their travel booked and still want to proceed, I think that some good, stampy activities can be organized (and I am willing to help organize). But I am getting ahead of myself.... nothing is cancelled yet, so let's not assume that it will be. In the meantime, thanks to a fluke cheap rail ticket (£5 per ticket each way), my wife and I are headed into London tomorrow. I will be visiting the Charing Cross Collectors Market in the morning, where I will be enquiring at LB1's request on availability of vendor tables on Saturday, 2nd May as well as current contact info for the Market organizers. And of course, if I happen to come across a few stamps that I want for my collection, well.... Stay stampy, all! -Chris

I too will still be coming even if the show is cancelled unless the situation here changes which is a distinct possibility. Once the UK is added to the list of countries already announced by the Government as being 'no fly' zones then I am in trouble. But hopefully all will be OK. It's a day-by-day thing at the moment as it is everywhere I guess.

A definite undecided here, waiting for the hysteria to wind down before committing as there are other shows later in the year...
Happy collecting!

Yes true, there are always other shows. I think it would help me if the show was cancelled and then the waiting around and nail-biting would be over. Holland went on the list here of countries to avoid and/or go into quarantine. It is rumoured that the UK will be added to that list later in the week so a decision will have been made for me. But still my fingers are crossed...........

My fingers are still crossed too.I read somewhere that in one scenario people over 70 would be discouraged from traveling and attending meetings where there are large groups of people. This would probably affect attendance if the show went ahead. More finger-crossing.....

Yesterday the Government announced the drastic measures we were all expecting. For the next 2 weeks all returning from abroad, no matter which country, must go into isolation. The time frame will of course be extended if the problems worldwide continue, and that is a most likely scenario given the current situation.
I will wait for 2 weeks and see what happens but will have to make a decision at that point because of the flight. But it's looking most likely that I will not be coming which will be a huge disappointment.

Most likely London 2020 will be canceled or postponed. Non-essential international traveling as well as gathering in large groups should be avoided by people over 60 or 65 which makes up a large percentage of stamp collectors. The UK will probably impose travel restrictions anyway so that people could not get there even if they wanted to.

Sorry to say you are "right" - We are living a Pandemic presently - Please follow the advertised safety measures and since Purell is no where to be seen (as equivalents) - I decided to do my own batch for my Family and close friends + detailed preventive measures - This will be done tomorrow in cooperation with one Pharmacist René

A good hand-washing with soap does wonders, at least 20 seconds...
And once you start touching foreign objects, no face-touching allowed!

It is a good start but you cannot carry water and soap outside the house, thus the need of a good hand sanitizer with minimum 70% ethyl ethanol (rubbing alcohol) + other measures with encounters with people - I do not shake hands anymore or do the "kissing routine" and watch the counters which should be cleaned with minimum of bleach or alcohol 70% (rubbing) - this is all available on excellent sites

For those of you upset about the probable canceling of London 2020, this is a graph demonstrating how canceled events and self quarantines save lives by slowing down the rate at which people get sick. This prevents the health care system from becoming overwhelmed and running out of capacity which would mean that some people would not get treated. It's probably a good idea to avoid going to any large gatherings especially stamp shows even in your own community. A large number of the attendees will be over 60 years old which has been determined to be a high risk group for severe illness. Also there will be some people with underlying illnesess which is also a high risk group. And some will be in both groups. Just because the number of reported cases in your location is low or zero does not mean that the virus is not there. Most people who get it have mild cases and never get tested. We need to protect our aging philatelists. Be careful and take an abundance of caution.

I have just now read the latest from Prime Minister Boris Johnson who appears to be throwing a lot of faith behind the top UK scientists. While the threat of problems at outdoor events is pretty low, the major problem could be those events held indoors. This is what they are saying which is why there is very little cancellation or postponement of Soccer and Rugby matches like there is almost everywhere else. But it doesn't bode well for a big International Stamp Exhibition if those comments are to be believed or acted upon. But we shall see. I am still getting over the disappointment of not attending an event I have looked forward to for years !! But that's life, it throws up both good and bad.

Today I cancelled my London Hotel and got a full refund. I am waiting a bit longer for flight change or cancellation in the hope that the airline cancels for me and I can get a refund. Otherwise I will have to suffer a loss. I can still change my flight and they have offered to do it without charge (?) but to when ? Who knows how long this will last. anglobob and I have mentioned that Stampex in September may be an alternative but we will wait and see what happens first. I expect news from the 'London 2020' organizing committee this coming week. Londonbus1

My tickets were with KLM...I can change my ticket without penalty or they will give me a voucher good for one year, but even if they cancel the flight, say they will not give a refund. Not too keen on a voucher as there is no guarantee they will be operating in a year,s time if this crisis continues....
