What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

The stamps were issued by the North-German-Confederation in 1870 for use in Elsaß-Lothringen,what was re-incorporated into Germany, following the Franco-German (Prussian)- War of 1870/71. In Elsaß-Lothringen they were valid till Dec.31st,1871,when they were replaced by the stamps of the united Germany.
The stamps were also valid in other parts of the occupied France latest till March 24th,1871.
If genuine, the set is rather valuable with nearly € 600.-,the cheapest types. However a reprint was made in 1885.But only the mesh-work was printed from the original plates, while the inscriptions were printed from new plates.Because of that the reprints are not difficult to spot. The value of the reprints is about 2-3 % of that of the originals.

My turn to be jealous. The Alsace-Lorraine issues are among the most sought after of French classical issues, even if issued by a German authority (and therefore catalogued by Michel among the German States issues, while of course Yvert & Tellier has them as part of the France catalog). Long bloodied history of these two regions that changed hands many times.

The forgeries outnumber the genuine by something like 10:1. However, it isn't difficult to get genuine stamps. You'll get genuine ones whether you want to or not, when you start buying collections/accumulations/boxlots.

Thanks all! Based on the information I can (now) find, the position of the "P" makes these all reprints Here are three original 10 Centimes at the bottom of this page. The two on the left are both points down and the right one is points up. This is a page from a stockbook I got that I am getting ready to break up. Most of the stockbook is classic European, Canadian, & Danish countries stamps that I don't collect, so off to Ebay they go.
Have a great day.
Mike.

Here is one of my post card with "cross hatching" writing.
My question is the added red stamp on the post card that seems to have numbers "5" and possible "0" on it. Any ideas..

I'm hoping that someone will recognize the blue killer on this U.S. postage due stamp. It consists of a beaded circle with the letter "N" over top of what appears to be a reverse arrow ( >- ).

I have no idea about US stamps, but could it be a "Y" instead of a reverse arrow .... "NY"?

tomiseksj - this is called a silent precancel and is known as New York String of Pearls. Attributed to New York city, thus the central monogram of overlapping N and Y, one at 90 degrees from the other. Not uncommon, mostly on first and second US postage due issue. Although quite scarce on complete cover.

Yes it is a local delivery stamp for letters within the town of Horsens in Denmark.
In the 1880s many towns in Denmark and also in Other Scandinavia countries had private deliveries within the town boundaries , a “BYPOST “ service , which was cheaper than the official postal service. Most were closed down by 1890.
you will find similar private city posts in Norway , Sweden, Finland and in Germany .
