A nice little lot of British South Africa stamps used for revenue purposes on a Deed of Transfer (By Virtue of a Power of Attorney) of land dated 4th November 1896. The One Pound, Ten Shillings and Five Shilling stamps have been cancelled with a Deeds Registry Office oval double ring handstamp for Bulawayo erroneously dated 01 Nov 96 but should be 10 Nov 96 as per the second page (not shown). The stamps have also been cancelled with red pen marks. The stamps, SG 10, 9 and 8, British South Africa Territory, would have a decent catalogue value if they weren't revenue used. Also showing a Cape of Good Hope stamp, Postage One Shilling overprinted British/South Africa/Company also revenue used with red pen cancel from the attached Power of Attorney, not shown.

I purchased this lot recently and they were all hinged lightly to an album page. That was lucky as the backs were not shown. I am more and more intrigued with the "double head" issue. Note the cancel on the ha'penny. Thanks to forum member clivel for researching "Battlefield Mines" post office. Of all the issues, mint or used, this is my favourite!

you're quick rod I must say, and your details v. interesting - thanks for taking the time to add this information. So IIRC what you're saying is that if I had the complete envelope, and it was mint, it would make this item worth £50 - sadly this remnant is all I have - but tbh this is the most significant part of the envelope:-) - and did you think my suggestion of the location of the cancellation about correct? 'Mutilated stationery fragment' sounds very harsh - presumably there must be a few mint envelopes lurking around though sadly not in my direction. thanks again.
