The 1938 National Air Mail Week (NAMW) cachet from Harlingen, Texas, located in the heart of the Texas citrus region, features an orange.

cursus thank you for posting. I note that the stamp features the sweet orange while the oranges on the card appear to be the Seville or bitter oranges.

I'm afraid there aren't any printing data on the back of the card. I've another one with a chessnut, also with the 1975 FD Madrid postmark. If you're interested, I can send it to you.

JeffS You really know your topic and you’re probably well aware of this, but just in case, have you ever searched for Vitamin C themed stamps? Great Britain issued one showing an orange in the background.

My daily breakfast starter, half a red grapefruit sometimes the juice does escape! Followed by glass of orange juice, and blueberries with my cereal should be getting enough vitamin C, though my Mum always insisted on Black currants with lemon and honey hot drinks for colds and sore throats.

@vikingeck I have to avoid grapefruit due to a prescription medicine conflict. However, I heartily endorse the eating of the fruit pomelo which is a delectable breakfast (but somewhat messy) citrus source.
I started redoing this page some time ago, thus the pencil notation and replaced stamp at the bottom.

Just a little Vitamin C historical foot note .. in the absence of fresh fruit and vegetables in the 19th century Royal Navy sauerkraut was served with doses of Lime juice as antiscorbutic. The Americans mocked this calling British “lime juice “ sailors hence “ Limeys”
one of the early benefits of the new post war National Health Service was the provision of free Milk , cod liver oil, and concentrated orange juice to ensure essential vitamins to all children following WW2 food rationing

Have you ever wondered where all that mixed fruit in the cans on the grocery shelf, in mixed fruit salads, and in the familiar cornucopia come from? Well, it comes from the Australian Mixed Fruit Tree.

Today's orange journey takes us to Tahiti, the largest island of French Polynesia.
I am particularly glad to be able to post this page as the Tahiti postcard which I purchased in July from a French Delcampe seller, assumed lost in the mail, finally arrived yesterday, a journey of 3 months. The mailing envelope showed a clear July postmark but no indication for the delay in transit.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

JeffS Jeff, I did a quick Google search for Texas Mature Fruit Tax stamps purpose and I came up with this document with amendment dates right up to recent years. statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/AG/htm/AG.94.htm It does talk about a fee for selling products out of season.

rod222 thanks for participating in my oranges project, I am familiar with all except the el Camino real cinderella. And the Perfin stamp is a kumquat, not an orange, but a very distant cousin none the less.

JeffS I am familiar with all except the el Camino real cinderella. Hi, from what I gather, El Camino Real (The Royal Road) is a tourist journey? from Sonoma to San Diego The "stamps" go in some sort of "Passport" in visits during the Journey
My Bad assuming the dates shown were for the Oranges, not so. (64 Stamps in the set?)

rod222 and other interested members. From a quick search online I found this concise historical explanation or El Camino Real: Many of the world’s great civilizations boast distinctive architecture or infrastructure that has endured a hallmark of their culture and history. In California, the name El Camino Real (“The Royal Road”) has resonated for generations. Extending over 600 miles from San Diego in the south to Sonoma in the north, El Camino Real was, in essence, California’s first highway, connecting 21 Franciscan missions. However, the road’s importance and its name recognition have far outlasted that of the missions it originally served. A collection of cards and covers from points along the way would, in my mind, make for a great collection. And as a side note, El Camino Real was also the title of my 7-8th grade Spanish language text book.

Here is a cute souvenir sheet from the never-ending printing presses of Tanzania. Issued in 1996 along with a set of 4 stamps each bearing a single fruit including an orange. Scott lists a similar sheet numbered 1485a for a 300/- value featuring bananas. No mention is made of this particular 500/- value showing 3 fruits, unless it is buried elsewhere in the catalog, (2015 edition)
