As I was clearing through my Belgian stamps I found this set of forerunner stamps for Ruanda-Urundi which I thought might be of interest. At the end of WWI, the British were all set to take over all of German East Africa, but after some strenuous objections from the Belgian government an agreement was reached, ceding the future area of Ruanda and Urundi to Belgium. Subsequently stamps from Belgian Congo were overprinted to indicate the Belgian occupation of German East Africa. Eventually Stamps were issued for "Ruanda-Urundi" which remained under Belgian control until the 1960s.
