This is the first set of stamps issued by Equatorial Guinea (Sc# 1-3). It was issued on the day of their independence, October 12, 1968. They are produced by the Photogravure method, are unwatermarked with a perforation of 13. Printed by the F.N.M.T., (Fabrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre) in Madrid, Spain. Equatorial Guinea was the result of two Spanish provinces, Fernando Po and Rio Muni, uniting to form the independent Republic of Equatorial Guinea, officially called "República de Guinea Ecuatorial". It was ruled by President for life Francisco Macías Nguema, whose image is found on the countries second stamp issue. He ran perhaps the most violent, corrupt and despicable regime in history. He was overthrown in a coup in 1979 by his nephew Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo who has served as the country's president since. He was little improvement over his uncle.

I always thought this was a World#1, Faroe Islands, but I see others have posted later stamps
Hi Sudbury, Your stamp is in fact the first for the Faroe Islands, and a good copy of a fairly uncommon stamp. You can read more about it here: www.stamp-collecting-world.com/faroeislandsstamps_1919.htmlIn a nutshell from this article, The first provisional Faroe Islands stamps appeared at the beginning of 1919, out of necessity! The Danish postal service raised the letter postage rate to 7 øre. During World War I, shipments between Denmark and their territory of the Faroe Islands were problematic. It was unlikely that the new 7 øre stamps would arrive from Denmark in time for the postage rate increase on January 1, 1919.The next set of stamps issued would be in 1940 by the British Government who stationed troops on the island during the Second World War. Faroe Islanders voted in 1946 for full independence from Denmark, who voided the result but Self-Government was granted in 1948. Unlike Denmark, Faroe Island is not a member of the European Union. The next set of stamps issued were only in 1975 - and can be considered the first stamps of a "self-governed Faroe Islands".

This is the first stamp, in a set of three stamps issued by Namibia (Sc# 1). It was issued on the day that South West Africa formally obtained independence from South Africa, as the Republic of Namibia on 21 March 1990. Southwest Africa / Namibia's history is a terribly sad one beginning in 1884 when the German Empire established rule over most of the territory, forming a colony known as German South West Africa. The German military perpetrated a genocide against the Herero and Nama people. German rule ended during World War I and South Africa was granted the territory as a Mandate by the United Nations. They imposed their laws, including racial classifications and rules and rolled out Apartheid in 1948. Southwest Africa became a centre of conflict, not only in terms of South Africa quelling independence movements, but also a "frontline state" and a "Cold War" area of conflict. Pictured in the stamp is Samuel Shafiishuna Daniel Nujoma, a Namibian revolutionary, anti-apartheid activist and politician who served three terms as the first President of Namibia, from 1990 to 2005, ending in a peaceful and democratic transition. Namibia, like Botswana, are two Africa countries that have transitioned well from colonialism into vibrant democracies. Their stamp issuing policies are, and continue to be conservative with only a few new series issued each year. In general, their stamps are very attractive. I encourage anyone here to start a side-line collection of either of these two countries.

I was working on a spreadsheet and it lists about 1050 "number ones" but not everyone's definition is the same. For Scott, when there are back of the one issues (occupation, possessions, military, treaty ports, etc.) the number can go up. For example, countries that have been fought over many times can have a large postal history, Morocco French Offices Morocco British Offices Morocco German office Morocco Spanish Offices Morocco Rio De Oro 1905-1922 Morocco Tetuan 1908-1908 Morocco Spanish Morocco Morocco French Morocco Morocco Cape Juby 1916-1948 Morocco French Offices-Tangier 1918-24 Morocco La Aguera 1920-1922 Morocco Spanish Sahara 1924-1976 Morocco British Offices in Tangier Morocco Spanish Offices in Tangier Morocco Ifni 1941-1969 Morocco Great Britain Tangier International City 1948-1950 Morocco Spanish West Africa 1949-1951 Morocco Morocco - Northern zone Morocco Morocco - Southern zone Morocco Morocco 1958- Don't forget the 16 distinct local private routes, some sponsored by consulates, and then the Sultan's service with separate stampings for each of 13 towns.
Also: Ifni and the other Spanish colonies became provinces of Spain in 1960, so count as yet more countries with first issues.
Britain's Morocco agencies can be further split: the early routes run out of Gibraltar and also the stamps after WWII are arguably distinct from the main British Offices.

Yes, the question is where do you stop? This is an individual decision. I have not finished Morocco since it was complicated. My approach was to focus on stamps USED in a region regardless of whether they were locally produced or from external like in occupations, mandates, colonies, etc. i

Kazakhstan Sc/SG #1 issued 17th March 1992. Formerly a republic of the Soviet Union, Kazakhstan declared its independence in 1991. Kazakh might originate from the Turkic word verb qaz-, 'to wander', reflecting the Kazakhs' nomadic culture.

Have they misspelled the country's name? Isn't there a K missing from the middle, or do they have multiple spellings?
