I have been a member of 3 stamp forums. The first was not very friendly. The second (The GOMC) was good but has now gone. I see there are some ex members here so hi to those who remember me! The third, well 50 posts in 9 years says it all. I have a good collection of mint stamps from Great Britain and the South Atlantic Islands mostly collected from 1980 until 2000 when I stopped my new issue services. Looking ahead to retirement I started searching for a challenging and rewarding theme/country. In 2012, I found it (a long story) and now collect stamps and other things associated with the UK based printers Perkins, Bacon & Co. Ltd. They of course printed the Penny Black in 1840 and many of the classic British Colonial stamps. They went into liquidation in 1935.
It is challenging in that there are no printed or online catalogues or printed albums of their stamps, everything has had to be researched which I really enjoy. Rewarding, in that hopefully one day I might be able to make it available to other collectors in some way.

Welcome, michael! I bet I can take a pretty good guess as to which was the unfriendly forum. You'll like it here, I think. I have a burgeoning collection of Great Britain, and I'm having fun starting to fill that window you mentioned (1980-2000), and beyond.

Michael, sadly the founders of the GOMC passed away in fairly quick succession. The only person who can access the database is now in a nursing home and not being helpful. I was GOMC6 (sherro, globalphilately)
